Hmm... The more and more I think about this issue the more I like the way it is. Besides, who is to say the Land of Midnight isn't very magical?

I still find lakes very frustrating.
My suggestion would be to change them, so that they have the same chance of getting Water of Life as getting polluted water, with the rest always giving one natural day's worth of recuperation as opposed to nothing+an energy drain as it does now.
Perhaps reducing the magical find percentage a bit would balance things out here.
I'm still a bit uncomfortable with the idea that lakes can invigorate massive forces within two or three days, while exhausted individuals can get stuck at one for longer without respite.
Let's face it, at the moment finding the Waters at lakes is a good result, while everything else is a bad one. I'd like to see the potential for instant mass invigoration reduced, while making a positive result range much wider, hence the suggestion above.

Perhaps contaminated water could reduce courage as well, so that more time would be spent getting it back at a lith. And reducing army's effectiveness.

I think that maybe the LoM approach might get implemented eventually - ie Lakes give 1 water of life, after which they are normal water. Then maybe every 5 days a random number of normal water lakes get upgraded again (the waters of life having had time to get seep back in again maybe).

what about having the WoL moving from lake to lake (more precisely from 10 lakes to another 10 lakes or so) every turn, with a 100% prob of finding?

Would normal water give you an interim level of refreshment - like the same amount you get from finding shelter? And presumably be a bit easier to find than waters of life. Given that you are at a lake. Unless your armies are very stupid, or have helmets that cover their eyes, or something. If I knew lakes only had one chance at waters of life I'd only use them when I was sure no enemies had inflitrated my territory, i.e. at the beginning of the game. Which is precisely when I don't need lakes...

There would need to be something more, or else most of the WoL would be taken up when people least need it (but since you don't want your enemies to have it...)

Okay so we'd have the Waters of Life, the Waters of Half-Life, and the Waters of LowLife which sounds great! Could we have an NPC called for example The Seer of Waters who would roam the Land giving drink to everyone?
And Marie, Foul have full helmets, which cover their eyes. You're being prejudiced.
I hate this ISP, how I hate this ISP.
