(...keeping fingers crossed this is the right category for it... ...cross-posted to the Yahoo group too...) Hi folks, time to pollute the forums with another developer thread... I've spent the last few days redesigning my landscaping engine, which will mean far better capabilities and a superior look compared to the old one, not to mention the removal of bugs. Part of this process is switching from the old way of placing things on screen which was derived directly from the landscaping code on www.icemark.com, to a system where everything is calculated from a few reference points. Displacement from the center of the screen is easy, as is the scaling and order in which the billboards need to be drawn. However, if anyone has already come up with a formula for determining the vertical displacement relative to the horizon, it would save me some considerable time in devising one of my own. (This is the factor that determines how high up the screen billboards are pasted, depending on the distance of the relevant terrain from the player's position) Any help or advice would be much appreciated. ;D
