Just to warn you, I'm not committing myself to the result, but I'm interested and could be swayed by a well thought out argument

Perhaps recruitment itself should take some (random) time, like seeking, incuring the penalties to bothe the recruiter and the recruitee (if option 2 is accepted). And maybe race difference could be calculated into the time spent.

I feel I have to go with the 'same hours left' rule, as it was the one I implemented in Marshall Lords...
Although ML used a recruitment algorithm similar to DDR, so time was taken with the attempt.

Looks like the second option is the preferred way. I will implement it for the next release, and we can see if it works out OK or whether it has a negative effect.
Maybe a drop down list in the create new game pages which offers all three options would be best?

Configuration sounds like a good idea.

Yep. Full configuration, but with a Game Settings table available in the game info subpages...

But maybe should recruiter spend hour or 2 to recruit..Conscription takes much time..

Option 2 is my preference too, and I like Matija's idea of adding a time penalty. In fact I would even suggest a "seek-like" mechanism, where the recruitment attempt may or may not be successful. Repeated attempts would work like repeated seeks, but if the last attempt fails and night falls, a rival might get the chance to recruit the same lord during his turn, and even have time to attack the original would be recruiter.
I'm not so keen on the configuration option, as usual. I just feel that too many configuration options will result in too many different types of game, which in turn would render any kind of results classification meaningless.

This sounds very reasonable. One hour is OK.
Interracial penalties, as Matija suggested, also sound realistic.

While we are at recruiting rules:
Except for kings who should be able to recruit everyone, I think that original "masked" recruiting method was excellent and would work good in MMU as well.
You know: Fey can recruit only Fey, Wise can recruit everyone, lesser Free lords can recruit only other lesser lords, etc.
But what if you approach neutral lord and cannot recruit him/her? Leave him/her be, attack immediately, choose?

na na, i'd prefer to see immediate recruiting stand at 80% odds PLUS a bonus if Race=race...
