Haven't played a "Classic" recruitment mode game for some time, and it feels really weird now. Fernando, that was unbelievably bad luck you had there. It 's not often one gets attacked on his first night out before recruiting anyone, but when it happens it really stinks.

I gambled a bit because I was halfway betweeen xxxxxxxxxxx and yyyyyyy, with a +1sq proximity to xxxxxxxxx, and although yyyyyyyyy would be safer from a get-my-quadrant point of view, I wanted all of it so... But we were even in men, or had I ditched my riders? Can't recall

But we were even in men, or had I ditched my riders? Can't recall Ditched your riders? Why would you do that? No, actually you had the numerical advantage on the first night, but I had to attack anyway to stop you recruiting. However, I attacked you on the second day for me, after I had just recruited a neighbour, and because of the Classic mode that recruit was on hand the next morning to give me another batch of men before going off to do his own job. This turned things round but I am surprised you didn't move off just before the end whrn you would have escaped to get some recruits of your own. My kind was too tired to follow you for long (and wouldn't have caught a Targ without warriors anyway), and the new recruit wouldn't have been able to move for another day. Still, I guess victory would have been very difficult from that position.

I had relied on you also being without allies, and since my energy was higher I would have kicked butt there...

I haven't seen much of Celebungler, but I have a suspicion the entire south is under his command. He is the dangerous one, Dai, not me. I can't go past ten citadels, but CeleB will as soon as he put the squeeze on me. ROTFL!!! Oh Mads, you have such a talent for comedy. Actually I am no threat to anyone, and I suspect Dai took Grarg off you because he is getting close to his 12. He owns the entire southeast, just so you know. My encounter with the Barrowwight cost both of us the game. In his case, it cost him his life, in mine it cost huge amounts of recruitment. Worse, I cannot withstand an attack from either of you so I suspect someone is going to reach those 12 citadels real soon now, though it certainly isn't me. I'm just making up the numbers here.

And just in case Dai thinks I'm picking on him, let me add that I believe your claim that you can only take 10 citadels is a bluff. I wouldn't believe a word of it.
Oh Dai, if you want your spies to be of use to you keep them out of my hair. I may be no threat, but I can't have them prowling around that close, you know.

Okay, it's part of the game. I just might get eleven citadels if I can persuade Dai to give up Grarg and Dreams, but that's it. Not a single citadel more Phwaaah...

Wight? Me? A royal thane of the house of Bruttia? Wait until I get my hands on a new game.

Hello,
You're right Mads. I don't get much chance to read the forum's these days, but I wil be popping in occasionally.
There seems to be a hole in the recruitment somewhere. Either that or everyone is overestimating everyone's forces. I have a goodly force and a few Citadels, but I wouldn't class it as overwhemlming. Still I've got a sizeable rearguard protecting the southwestern border from Bill, so we'll have to see how things go. I've probably been a tad overcautious in this one as it's my first game in a while.

Dang, foiled again! And High King Natmus the so-closer sings: Hello, I must be going, I cannot stay, I came to say, I must be going. I'm glad I came, but just the same I must be going. La La. Surely you did not expect to take two of my three citadels without a fight, did you?

I'm surprised it took this long for someone to win it.
I had a measly 3 citadels, and two of those (Gard and Kur-Aruth) were virtually indefensible to a determined attack. So my army sat at Shimeril unwilling to be the one who decided the outcome of the game by attacking one side or another.
Mads took Gard, and I was very surprised Dai made no real move towards Kur-Aruth. I guess that's what eventually decided it.

Yes, but nevertheless I think Dai had enough of a force in the south to take Kur-Aruth, just as you had to take Gard. Both were too isolated for me to defend all three effectively. I must admit to developing a dislike for SW starts in multi-player citadel games.
