I think we need a very strict letting in policy from now on... even with good organising 30+ members is alot harder to organise.

Here's the application process which needs to be followed, to make things smooth.

1. Application received.
2. Message sent acknowledging application with questionnaire and timescales (24-48hrs) for the application to be dealt with.
3. Thread posted on here with details marked [pending]
4. Once sufficient peoplehave given their verdict, either mark thread as [rejected] or [accepted] and inform the applicant asap.
5. If accepted then formally accept the player in the IK system and then start a new thread on the FoM game forum welcoming them and asking all FoM members to add the player as a "friend"
6. Send a PM in game advising the player to accept the friend offers and also ask them to register here and post a welcome post in "isles and rulers"
7. Forum admins need to accept the account here and set userstatus 'FoM users'

Yes, there annoying nicks and then there are annoying nicks. From now on i state the degree of annoyingness too. For the record, this is slightly annoying.

And, as is said, the theory of name telling a lot of the person only applies upto certain degree. For example, someone quickly takes a stupid name for irc channel, and suddently he is stuck with it even 10 years later.

Sometimes people use a handle and get stuck with it, either because they're used to using it or because their friends know them by that. I kept the same IKUK handle as other games for that latter reason, very few people I know play .com so a name change wasn't hard to manage.

That and it can get confusing maintaining different names for each game, especially if they depend on genre. Contradicting myself here I'm not a fan of people with several numbers at the end of their names... reminds me of multi's too much and despite their owners claim does not look better.

We should check new members for their ip's and alleged homecountry. Admins see the ip that made the post, and it can be referenced for location using www.ripe.net/perl/whois etc whois service.

Shouldn't applications thread probably all be polls? Yes and no options only?
X amount of votes required, with a time limit of one week max for discussion?
Am I being too burocratic? (thats not a poll question ;D )

What sort of percentage of yes votes does every-one think we should be looking for ?

Got bored and wondered if this could be of any use;

Application Process

Step 1.1
Player either sends an ingame mail to an admin or applies directly to the alliance using the ingame alliance system.

Step 1.2
Player will be sent the most recent questionnaire by an admin. It is at this time that a thread is made in the appropriate alliances Membership Applications board; the thread should be titled "[Pending] Player". At this stage the content of it can be merely what was recieved in Step 1.

Step 1.3
Player will reply with the questionnaire filled in to an admin, preferably the one that sent the questionnaire. This will then be posted in the Players Membership Application Thread.

Step 1.4
Over a 72-96 hour period current Morkin members will vote on the application.

Step 1.5
Once a sufficient time has passed judgement will be passed; an admin will post the initial decision made and post a time at which they will mail Player with this decision. This gives time for people to cast last minute votes.

Step 1.6a
If the application is successful then they are invited to either apply formally (if ingame mail was sent) and accepted as soon as possible or are just accepted (if ingame alliance system was used).

Step 1.6b
If the application is unsuccessful then Player is notified and the application formally Rejected ingame. It should be noted that the Player can feel free to reapply in the future.

Step 1.7
Player is asked to proceed with the External Forum Registration and Validation; this process is also mandatory. This could be done along with a "Welcome Player" thread posted on the ingame forum although this is done at the discretion of the admin handling the application.


External Forum Registration and Validation

Step 2.1
Player Registers an account on the external forums. Links are provided at the end of this guide.

Step 2.2
Player should then read and complete the steps in the "New members - Readmefirst" thread on the "Inselkampf Public Issues" board; the thread is stickied and should appear near the top.

Step 2.3
Under the assumption that everything has gone correctly Player should now be able to see several more boards related to their new alliance. Player is now an inaugurated member of Morkin.


Notes;

o Player refers to the applicant.
o Admin typically refers to the admin of the alliance to which the application was sent (only KoM is accepting external applications at the moment).
o Morkin refers to the entire Morkin name group, currently; [Morkin], [Corleth], [Luxor] and [KoM].
o The use of [Morkin], [Corleth], [Luxor] and [KoM] refers directly to the respective alliance (so note the diffence between Morkin and [Morkin]).
