DIGG Staff is contemplating suiciding out of the game. The FH Crew (archer, fhbone, and various others - a highly active and very astute group of gaming mates) are not keen to suicide, since they enjoy the game, and are looking to leave DIGG. Any idea what options these guys are looking at ? How well do you know them ? If the digg staff do decide to go out with a bang then maybe we could do some poaching ? Obviously it depends on their opinion of morkin/luxor but would it be worth mentioning to them that they could find a place here with us, either before the event or after everything has settled down. Clause and Aesir you guys probably know them better than anybody else here, what do you think ?

Aesir can speak better about Rezin, and the FH crew. He knows them much better than I.
As for the whole DIGG situation... it has me concerned deeply. Look at their island counts. They're becoming E|S. Players who had 20 isles a week ago have 75 now. Players who had 75 isles a week ago have 150 now.
They're already "difficult" to deal with, and their only saving grace is a rational staff. Their score is set to jump over 2,000,000 points based on their current new colonizations alone. What influence is Morkin going to have with them once their military is able to match their ego? How quickly will they discard us once they can, quite literally, defeat the entire Top 10 if Pantheon-Morkin-Valheru-E||M-etc were to unite against them?
Personally, I see grave things for the rest of the server in 3 months, once these 2,000+ colonizations are up to fighting strength. Our "soft power" will be dwarfed by the immensity of their "hard power".

Anyone who has played a board game like Risk™ or Axis and Allies™ knows that the game ends several turns before the last player is eliminated. The game ends when the clear economic advantage falls to far to one player. DIGG is standing on the edge of this point. If they continue to go unchecked for any longer, they will have ended this game on economic power alone and then where will we be? Eventually DIGG will have to split just to subside their own boredom of not having any opponents. In this game we are defined by our adversaries and DIGG is very close to not having any adversaries.

Exalt for the Axis & Allies reference! Exceptional game! I wasted many months of my younger years drawing up home-made theatre-specific maps and whatnot...

So to get back to DasNeal's (Okeanos) hopes and fears. They seem rather similar. Should we join with them to push Digg in the right direction now that we still can ?
I think we should. This is not going anywhere and we should not think we can deal with this ourselves.
And I also feel the average Digg player is way above the average other (.co.uk like) player, but that really isn't the point now. In spite of them being better quality they are still a problem not going away out of their own initiative.

And what would be our excuse to drop a pact?

I think rather than finding an excuse to drop our pact with digg we should be up front with them and tell them we're concerned that at their current numbers and rate of expansion they are going to become stifling for every other alliance on the server. i've spoken to a member of the digg staff recently and he's concerned that they seem to need an almost continuous stream of wars and battles to keep their members interested enough to play. They might not agree with us that the best thing for everyone would be Digg splitting up but at least they'd know how we feel and we dont have to invent reasons to drop the pact.

Yes, Terry, that is an excellent way to start preparing them so we don't loose face.
If not for this I would have simply said "times change, situations change, interests change".
A propos, some more ideas of DasNeal:
EDIT: I'm not saying I agree entirely with what he's saying (afterall he also wanted to buy all my cats and stoners for 400 dollars, so...), I'm merely conveying the messages for now.

If Digg does spilt up into 3-4 smaller alliances then surely our pact would be cancelled anyway since new alliances would be created? Unless of course all of the new alliances sail under the same banner (which seems likely and therefore their splitting would be a meaningless gesture). So all we really need to do is pressure them into splitting without mentioning the pact (I'm not sure how big of a deal that will factor into their desicion) and then it would sort itself out. Pantheon want them to split; they have talked about splitting amongst themselves; we would like them to split. The solution seems inevitable; we just have to careful about pushing, it is quite likely that if we push for them to split too hard all they'll do is push back. Then again nudging is what we're good at
