We've learned a lot about how to plan a war with a bigger alliance than we used to have on the .co.uk server. Feel free to suggest how to do it better in future! We can probably put such ideas to good use fairly soon!

Possibly head admirals in each ocean. This admiral can be given fleet details from the others in the ocean and determine who should attack (or not attack) what. Maybe have these admirals give updates to one or a couple of people who could be in charge of keeping track of all ongoing missions and determine if they're on the right track or not.
Sort of similar to what I've seen in this war. Certain targets were put up by the admins. Members in the relative location communicated with others and determined who could handle what. The above suggestion might just make things a bit more organized.

Yea, spliting up into 'attack forces' (by area) could be rather useful sometimes its hard to know who to get a hold of if you need a bit of back up

We could have one admiral per Ocean who would then keep track of the other players in that Ocean. Where we have too many members in an Ocean we can have two admirals, probably ideally you'd want 1 admiral and 3 players reporting to them. If there are Oceans where we don't have enoughb players we could form Ocean groups with admirals having control over more than 1 Ocean. Assuming this idea is worth pursuing then if someone could draw up a table showing which Oceans we have players in that would be handy, also volunteers for admirals would be good.

I agree, a more regional structure is required.

Good idea skulk - this would also be a better way to make sure no one is sitting round playing tidlywinks with their captains

A regional based structure will work out better. At least from my experience at this, I've seen local squads work very well (o6/7 and o1/11 as an example). I also view regional not exclusivly ocean based. People could be in ocean 5, but much closer to ocean 6 than the middle of 5. So we have areas of influence rather than oceans. I'll see if I can come up with a preliminary sketch of those.
There should however be one (or why not a triumvirate - 3) High 'generals' or High 'admiralty' or High 'organisers'. These have a global scope of whats going on, and basicly layout the general plan which is submitted to the local squads.
Personaly I dont see a need of having one admiral. Regional squads work very well, and should have the responsibility of coordinating amongst themselves. A natural leader or speaker can arise who submits or asks questions to the high admiralty to cut down many mails. I have been sending these request to all in the area rather than just one; ie, in ocean 6/7 I send the same mail to all, with a notifiaction stating the fact. So people receive directly from me (in this case) and know that I've sent to their comrades in the area. Making people aware of that fact, puts responsibilty on all shoulders.
So I'd sum it up like thus: Divide IK into 3 big admiralties - given to 3 overal strategist These comunicate directly to local area squads vial mail to all members of the squad.
