Application Process

I think we need a more robust procedure for dealing with new applicants, here's my idea, feel free to modify:

1. New applicant sends a message or applies, applications admin (eproxy) is informed by whoever received the application.

2. Applications Admin (eproxy) posts a thread on both forums to advise we've received the application and sends them the questionairre. The thread on this forum is in the form of a poll with these options:

a - Yes, let them into FoM
b - No, don't let them in
c - Unsure/Abstain

3. Once we get the questionairre back, details are posted on this forum under the initial announcement about the new applicant and voting begins.

4. Once voting is over (either 48 hrs, or when enough people have voted to give a clear decision) the applicant is advised the outcome with any further information such as why they were declined or if they were accepted information about coming onto this forum etc

The poll is then closed as well and an announcement made on the FoM/IK forum.

We need to decide how many votes we should consider the threshold for allowing a new member - should it be a majority decision or a unanimous one?

Not unanimous... that idea usually strikes me as a bit silly, perhaps a threshold of 75% for acceptance is ok? All votes counted after ~48 hours sounds like a good idea.

Not unanimous, basics sounds good, but it doesnt need to aplied to the letter in case of blurry cases.

I have several RL friends who I think would greatly enhance this alliance. However, I do not want them to apply as there is a chance they will get turned down. Which would be embarassing for me.

I agree with the voting measures mentioned before.

You could always put their case forward on their behalf and we could have a tentative vote - as Shendemiar said, if you knew someone in the RL then that would go greatly in their favour.

We tell them 'no' and then invite them in later if they check out ok.
