This must be straightforward, but better ask than to be sorry.

How does the market work.. If i buy stuff, does it come instantly, or transported. Who transports? Why do i need to have harbour, while goods coming from friends does not require one. Does it take long for the stuff to arrive... and so on.

It's transported, the gold is also transported so both parties need merchants.

You can get ripped off so beware!

I only send the goods once I've received them, as I have been ripped off at least once, but I wont forget who did it!
