1. Stoners, although weak do seem to be a deterrant to some. I propose that we all assemble a pool of stoners who can be shipped to new colonies, then shipped back once the colony can produce spears.
2. The new rule where you don't have a main island as such, favours the defender. Attackers daren't risk sending their whole fleets out to raid or attack as they risk having their fleets stolen, so this favours us as a peaceful alliance.
We can use this to our favour as if any member is attacked, another member of the alliance may well find the aggressor is relatively weak and subject to a colonisation attempt and therefore having their fleet stolen.
I am going to be keeping 1 colony ship as "spare" at all times when I can afford to build one, for such eventualities. It will be hard to pull off but worth trying I think.
3. Re the above, I think that there will be a lot more "taunting" to try to lure people into becoming victims of fleet stealing, so be wary!
4. Watch towers on new colonies will be very useful, while they are vulnerable they might even work as juicy bait to lure people into leaving their mains lightly defended while they try to colony steal, so again potentially you could do the same to their main and not only gain a colony and a fleet but a colony ship, if the gods of colonisation are very kind.

I think what happened was just daft. Attacking a strong alliance for a meagre nearly empty isle... Plain stupid. So I don't think we should care too much about wasting loads of energy in STs, but instead have a good attacking force. With new colonies, get the wall up as high as possible, and not too much in terms of mines, to make it less attractive. Then build mines, main, and barracks. Maybe build the main to level 5 first, so that you can build barracks. An attacker would have to smash it up anyway, so an upgraded main is no incentive to colonise.
