I've been giving it more and more thought, as the pre-war rhetoric heats up on the IK forums.
I would propose the following public statement once the war commences between DIGG and Pantheon:
DIGG and Pantheon have had a very clear, very public "Cold War" waging for a month now. Both sides are respectable in various regards, and both sides have their shortcomings in various regards.
It is the position of the Morkin family that this is a DIGG v Pantheon affair. This is an ideological war between two superpowers.
We firmly believe that, in the interests of a vibrant server and a fair fight, third parties should not enter this fight. It is as close to a fair and balanced war as has perhaps ever taken place on this server.
As such, the Morkin family intends to see it remain as such.
Let third parties not become pawns, nor cannon fodder.
The Morkin family hereby declares the strict neutrality in this war. However, this is a conditional neutrality.
1. We reserve the right to enter the war if any third-parties enter. We will give heavy consideration to joining the opposite side if one side invokes third-parties, to maintain a fair and balanced fight.
2. We reserve the right to enter the war if one side begins to exercise undue persecution of the other should one side clearly become the loser. This should be an ideological war, a fair fight, and a chance for the participants to have some fun and demonstrate which is the superior in warfighting - not a crusade which could remove as many as 500 players from the server.
3. We reserve the right to enter the war if we are attacked in any capacity.
We wish both sides well, and hope that they can remember that, at the end of the day, we all have much in common, as we all enjoy this game. Neither side is inherently evil, nor is either side inherently pure from sin. We are all human.
I believe this serves our interests in several capacities:
1. If Pantheon wins, we have violated any commitments to them. And let's be realistic - a Pantheon victory without a third-party is an uphill battle.
2. If DIGG wins, we can have privately explained that we have the utmost confidence they will win in a fair 1-on-1 fight, and thus they are secure and without vendetta to pursue their faction discussions.
3. This adheres to our fundamental moral principles of being a peaceful alliance and fairplay. Let's be honest - Pantheon wants this fight desperately, and if it's 1-on-1, I would have some moral qualms about jumping into it and throwing Suca minchia!-punches. Nobody has jumped into our fight with the Orcs, and we should exercise the same courtesy.
4. Both sides will come out with losses, neither side able to exterminate the other, and we will come out with time to rebuild our fleets from Operation Elf, and will have a considerable fleet-advantage on this server that will serve us well in a post-WWII scenario, no matter the victor.
