For posterity, here is the exchange I had with HypnoticKiller:

Sorry man, but we cleared that isle. Please don't re-inforce it, as we already have people lined up to take it.

Bullshit. I cleared it. And I'm reinforcing it right now.
Chiavata! no. I lost 40 lws full of spears, semi clearing that isle. Then another member finished it off. And don't expect to be keeping it. Coz you won't be.
Tough luck. I lost a fleet clearing it. And I don't care whether you claim it or not. First come, first serve.
If you try to take this isle, there'll be a war between you and the Morkin triumvirat. So you better look out for another island.

A.

Yeh sure you did. That isle was cleared and had the main house taken down to level one, it was just about to be colonised by one of Phoenix. We fought for it, we take it. Grover's isles belong to us. You effectively took a Phoenix isle.
The isle was not cleared, and it didn't say anywhere it was a Phoenix isle. Grover's isles belonged to Grover, not to Phoenix.
If it had been a Phoenix isle before my colonisation succeeded I'd have stopped of course. But for the past 24hrs there was no sign of Phoenix anywhere.

Thats because we had to sort something out with Gorbag. Grover's isles don't belong to grover, trust me, they are property of Phoenix. We have basically cleared every isle apart from the second one. And will be taking all isles apart from the second one.
I assume by the 'second one' you mean 1:72:25. This is now property of Morkin.
If you had looked around a bit, you'd have noticed that I have islands completely surrounding that one. If you had sent me a polite notice of your plans I would probably have left it alone. But I clear it, colonise it, losing a not inconsiderable amount of ships, troops, and cats in the process, and then you suddenly come along telling me it was yours all that time.
Am I supposed to be omniscient? Fact is that the isle belongs to me now, and will continue to belong to me.
I should perhaps mention that this matter is currently being discussed within our alliances, and reinforcements are being sent in. And it would be a bit silly to start a war for just one single isle.

No, only isle were not taking is 0002 grover (1:93:8). But anyway, were fighting a war against [Elite], its obvious that grover is getting taken down, why would i send you a note telling you to leave the isles alone? To be honest i would have thought it would have been obvious it was ours. And if i send you one, does that mean i'm suposed to send everyone in ocean one a note telling them not to take the isles. Just incase they decide to nick one?
If Morkin were in a war against another alliance and we suddenly started stealing your cleared colonies, i think you might want them back.
That isle belonged to Pheonix, you took it off us. Why are we going to let you keep it?
And wars have been started on lesser things

And wars have been started on lesser things
a) I didn't hear about this war, even though I read a newspaper and listen to the news on the radio all the time.
b) it is in no way obvious that an island whose owner is given as 'grover234' with no alliance membership belongs to the Phoenix alliance.
c) Yes, if you claim an isle it might be useful to send a note to anybody in its neighbourhood, as I assume that psychic powers are not widely distributed amongst IK players.
d) When in the past (on co.uk) Morkin has taken over islands in a war, there was never any opportunity for anybody else to take over an island, due to the absence of a time-lag between clearing and colonising. In case a colonisation had failed, of course we wouldn't have claimed it back if someone else had got their boat in.
e) this whole 'I claim island x:x:x/ocean x' stuff is getting rather ridiculous. There is no such thing as a 'claim'. Either the island is yours, or it isn't.
f) you are going to let me keep my island as I assume you are nice guys, we are nice guys, and a war between us would be futile. Especially as there are other threats around. Guess which alliance/player would really look forward to such a war. Hint: that player is neither in Phoenix nor in Morkin.
g) wars have indeed been started on lesser things. But if we get together instead of fighting each other there are much jucier targets to collect.

Alright, so you didn't hear about the war. You took the isle. The decent thing to have done, would have been to let us have it back and leave it at that. We took most losses off it, we did most of the hard work.
The Grover, Gorbag situation is the reason why we had a break. That isle was going to be taken tonight before you nicked it anyway.
I know a war between us a you would be pointless and stupid, and no its not going to happen. And yeh Tyrant is a Puttana!, but we won't let him get too far away.
Please can you and the rest of Morkin and all affilate alliances, leave the rest of Grovers isles. We have cleared basically all of them, and it really wouldn't be good if you nicked them all.

Your change in stance is much appreciated. I know these things are unavoidable sometimes, but I can assure you that this island was very expensive for me to get, and it was indeed me who cleared about 40 LWS plus several hundred spears off it, losing most of my own fleet in the process. So if some one your members claims to have done that, they lie. I have the attack report to prove it.
And although I object to your choice of the word 'nicked', I will let our members know that you are going to take the remaining Grover isles. In fact, I have already put up a notice while writing this.
It's good to know you're keeping an eye on Tyrant. We're suspecting that he's a big-time multi, but I guess you've come to the same conclusion. Would you be interested in any more formal diplomatic relations with Morkin?
Best regards,
A.

Well i'll take your word for it. I know you guys are a bunch of trustworthy people. And thanks for putting the notice up. I'm going to try and get Grover put into Pheonix anyway to avoid anymore confusion.
And yeh i agree with you about Tyrant. Maybe you and the Pheonix admins should have a chat about it. Would be better to stop him before he gets too big.
Diplomatically, i can't do anything. As much as personally myself, i would say yes. I'm afraid you will have to talk to one of our diplomats about that.
