not sure I agree with that entirely Arminius, if ney hadn't been such an innadequate commander and grouchy had marched to the sound of guns and Blucher hadn't turned up then I think it may well have been different, but just the Prussians alone ( who incidently were unusually late) I'm not so sure that we could be that conclusive

Blücher's arrival, and nothing else, saved Wellington. About the Prussians "(who incidentaly were unusully late)", what do you mean they were late? They shouldn't have been there at all. Anyway, here's a little reading for ya: www.napoleon.org/en/reading_room/articles/files/allen_waterloo.asp

Interesting read Natmus. But it's a French website and the article written by someone from the US of A, therefore obviously wrong.

I was actually at the place along the Rhine where Blucher crossed in the dead of winter. Say what you like, but it take some skillz to move an army across a frozen river.

Another interesting anecdote is that Blücher suggested as name for the battle "La Belle Alliance", which is where the fighting actually took place, and it would also refer to the Anglo-Prussian collaboration quite nicely. But Wellington insisted on naming it after the British HQ which apparently was miles away from the real action. Probably all an attempt to claim sole credit for the victory...

Those sneaky Brits... Good thing we broke away from them before we started drinking tea, playing cricket, and talking funny.

Hey credit where credit's due! If it weren't for Wellingtons foresight, Abba would never have won the Eurovision song contest and we might neve have heard of them!

I'm sure they'd have had a hit with 'Belle Alliance' instead...

Those sneaky Brits... Good thing we broke away from them before we started drinking tea, playing cricket, and talking funny. Indeed. Instead you now drink coffee, play baseball and er talk funny. Oh and invade small countries for no apparant reason, that's one thing we did manage to teach you.
