Hello,
Does anyone know if you can install XP and Sata without using a floppy disk drive.
From my searching I've found the following:
1. Yes you can, with a hacked up XP copy 2. Yes with a XP disc with SP2 on it 3. No 4. Yes when you press F6 you can eject the cd and put a cd in with the drivers.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The only other option is slipstreaming the SATA drivers into the install disc and burning a new one. It's a pain in the butt, but it will give you a fully updated WinXP install disc. www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sp2_slipstream.aspThis is a pretty basic way to slipstream SP2 in, but straightforward. www.maximumpc.com/article/How-To--Slipstream-your-XP-installation?page=0%2C1Still basic, but it includes how to put in your specific SATA drivers. This is probably what you're looking for. Beyond that, there are some advanced programs out there that will auto-create all this stuff for you, but it makes for some headaches in setup and hard-to-follow instructions. Hope that helps

So if I had a XP SP2 disc then it would work?
Thanks for the links.

I think you would need to create a ram drive from MS-DOS and then install the drivers to there, then install windows( I'm assuming that you have all SATA drives and you want to install Windows XP)
That said, I have XP pro no service packs and I'm sure it asks if I want to install SATA drivers in setup, can't be sure

I'm doing this because a family friend wants a new computer and seeing as I'm the only one deemed knowledgeable I get lumbered with these things. I might try and create a slipstreamed disc this weekend, failing that I'll have to borrow a floppy drive from somewhere.

I can create you a slipstreamed disk no problem mate. Trust me it will work, had to do it for my new comp cause SP1 does not support PCI-E graphics cards
