Not so fast! Still got 30 minutes before the first one hits.
And I've got another 3 ships on an isle nearby as well. So currently there are 5 ships heading for the newly cleared one... and potentially two more. Though I'm out later today and wouldn't want to risk multiple over-colos in case I can't build or recall. Hope it won't be necessary.

The other issue to think of is that expansion on inselkampf is relatively exponential. So an island now is worth more than one in the future, no matter the cost to colonise it (I was spending thousands of LWS against single isles on IKUK recently). Besides since you, or at least myself, aim to own isles for a very long time (say a year, which even then can be an underestimate) you'll more than make all and more of your resources back. Like Clause said the only issue to consider is warfare; generally speaking lowering your LWS count would make you more suseptable to war.
On the other hand due to our peaceful nature we probably won't be starting wars ourselves; nor can I imagine any other alliance openly declaring war on us for no reason. So as long as we don't give people reasons we will be safe to build up our fleets. Helping to keep us safe even when we might have given people a reason, at least in their eyes, are our diplomats whom are some of the best in Inselkampf (with the Morkin name, and fleets, 'behind them'' as well).

OK, got it in the second attempt. Thanks to all who contributed to this discussion. It was useful thinking about it, and I think I'll keep doing it in the future.

Does anyone here use the two coloships in the same fleet tactic at all? I've been using it a few times recently while coloing over a lvl20 wall, to try and limit the attempts needed. If I can get two attempts in while only losing 1 set of LWS to the wall, all the better. However I wonder if the scenario ever comes up that both ships would succeed, and you'd end up losing 2 for 1 isle. I've sent about 8 attempts like this thus far and its never happened...but you'd think it may be possible.

Coly ships are too expensive for my taste.

Coloships are cheap Common myth that they're expensive. A colo costs roughly the same as 39 LWS. But the advantage is, they can be build in 25% the time of 39 LWS. The biggest "expense" of the colo is that it clogs up your harbour for 20 hours and costs you 10 LWS that you could have otherwise produced in that time.

It's the time put into saving for one and building one. If I lose a colo ship, I think of the ships and spears I could have had instead.

I never tried 2 colo ships in one fleet, instead I often send 2 (or even three) ships in separate fleets, 50 mins or so apart. If the first attempt fails you'll get the next go sooner. If it succeeds, just build up the main.

I've had a problem doing this once...
I sent roughly 5 at an isle. The first one succeeded. Get the MH going, no problem, right?
Along comes some kid from [Salish], and takes it over top of me. I'll take it back right away, right? No problem, right?
So I get it back. He says he feels bad, and sends me 500 stoners to the isle. Before I could tell him "Not necessary", they arrived, and my 5th and final colofleet ran into them.
Fortunately I rarely send less than 300 LWS with coloships, but regardless, it was a painful lesson in the only real vulnerability of sending "colo trains" at islands.

Sending two colonyships in the same fleet can have two possible outcomes:
1. There's no effect at all. You only get one chance to colonize the isle and therefore the second colonyship is just dead weight.
There is no proof whatsoever that you'll get a double chance.
2. You do get two colonizing attempts with the distinct chance that both could succeed at the same time.
It is proven that you can colonize over yourself as long as the main house is level 1.
So my advice is the advice Arminius gave.
