As you can recruit lords from a different race, albeit with a small penalty.
How about being able to recruit soldiers from an ally garrison of a different race - but with some kind of penalty. something like, you can only take 200 soldiers at a time, and it takes 5 hours to do it. These soldiers obviously just turn into whatever race they were being recruited into.
That way you could do it, if you really need to, but it would take time.

I don't like this (sorry chris!) for two reasons:
1) Unrealistic to expect Fey to suddenly become Dwarfkind! (Fould <-> Free just about works, but that's the only possible one I'd say)
2) The current restriction makes the player plan ahead more (ie, what do I sacrifice my existing garrison of 200 Foul to create a Dwarf citadel at Korkith to resupply Evasta during the attack on Kor, etc, etc)
I had intended at one point to have lords able to lead multiple armies, like in Marshall Lords, but that's been relegated to the "nice things to have but not until post V1.00 at the very earliest" pile!

That's fair comment.
I was actually thinking about this because of the foul/free issue. In two player, depending on where you start you often end up mainly foul or free.
I started got 2 foul lords quickly, and dumped soldiers in keeps and citadels. But by the end was mainly free. And lost my two foul. 2000 soldiers stuck in limbo.
With all the other races you know that you don't have many lords to play with.
