We've been discussing this before, so this is just a remainder that in my oppinion, something should be done about it soon, it being too low for my taste. As things stand, it doesn't really make an impact and taking citadels just for troop regeneration berely makes for the losses taken in the process.
IIRC the suggestion was that when a lord is present, regeneration is the highest, then after he leaves, it drops over time.
But even if that is left for later, regeneration rate should be increased immediately, I think. At least doubled.

Well, it could be 25/50 without a lord and 30/60 with one, couldn't it? 35/70 with a King maybe?

I'd go for 30/40 per day with a lord present, dropping in increments afterwards to nothing after 10 days (unless visited by another lord, of course). A King may attract 40/50, but only for as long as he is present. I do agree that current rates are far too small - specially with the new VCs in place - but I don't want to see them rocket either.

I liked things the way they used to be: 10/15 per player in the game per turn. I think that had a good balance, adjusting for the greater need for more men in 3+ player games. As I recall, some people complained that citadels in the course of some turns became too hard to attack, and that is why J-Y shifted the amounts downwards. I would also like to warn against making things too elaborate. Keeping things simple would be much more in the spirit of the game, and constantly making more intricate rules to achieve realism (which is impossible in any case) will in the end ruin the game, or at least render it unrecognisable, and most likely unplayable. Jean-Yves' new time penalties has almost brought me to label him a 'Peter Jackson' (which is no praise in my book ). Don't give him new ideas about changing everthing once more.

For a non-elaborate compromise, how about making the refresh rate depend on the troops present? So as a citadel gets more full the amount generated decreases.
Say you need at least 200 troops to get any regen at all, and the total amount of troops you get is 10000 divided by the current garrison.
This means that having a lord present to bleed off troops gives the best refresh rate (always 20/30), but citadels left to their own devices slow down. At 500 troops they generate 7/14, at 1000 3/7 and at 2000 2/3.
Or some formula like that?
