This is just my theory but I thought I'd share, bearing in mind that damage is not persistant, I think it best to have the biggest ships you can as they can take most damage before going "pop". So, here is a list of the biggest ships you need if you want to be able to take on any other ship type: SHIP | TARGETS | Dragon Flagship | SS - FL - BA | Leviathan Flagship | CR - PD | Jugga Flagship | DE | Dragnet Battleship | FR | Bullet Battleship | CO - FI | Crusader Cruiser | CA | Tiger Cruiser | RE | Hawk Frigate | TR |
Feel free to argue about this, I'm not saying It's right but my basic plan will be to build only the above ship types as soon as I can - currently researching Bullet Battleships. The smallest ship I will build will be Hawk Frigates which are the largest type which can target Transports, if anyone wants to check this then feel free as I may have pleasureploeed it up! I will build the odd smaller ship and some Spirit classes too when I can't afford the bigger ships due to resource flow issues! These ships aren't necessarily the best "bang for your buck" but I beleive their survivability will make up for that, only time will tell!

Re the above, would a shed load of Spirit fighters be able to beat the bigger ships? I mean if you had 1k Spirit fighters and attack the above fleet with say 50 of each ship type, could you freeze so many that you could take them out cheaply?
Hmmmmmm.............

Please note that fleet consisting only from big ships ( =fewer in numbers that same amount of resources build as smaller ships) is more vunerable to freezing than the bigger fleet,

As far as I can tell, Omega cruisers are one of the most useful (of almost strategic value!) classes of ships in OR2.
Why? Because only they can attack both space stations and planetary defences, thus being the main force when invading a heavily guarded planets.
Bullet battleships are also very useful, being only capital ship class that can wreak havoc among fighters (and very effectively).

I suppose it would be handy to intersperse fleets of large ships with lots of Bullet Fighters, so they can take some of the freezing any Spirits might dish out and also kill them.

But each size class has one ship that is able to freeze. Bullet fighters are good only against those ships that froze fighter type.
Big ships are good backbone, but alone they are vounerable imho.
