Well, no, it's a suggestion for an "Abandon game" option.
I've recently noticed that my ongoing game box is getting cluttered with obsolete games, and I believe it is the result of the manual system we currently use for abandoning games. This is my suggestion for automating the process.
Add an "Abandon game" button to the game. This would act like the "End Turn" button, but in addition it would do the following.
- set the player's "abandon" flag for this game
- check if all the other players flags have been set. If yes, delete the game without recoding it as either a win or a loss. If no, then pass control to the next player as normal.
- if a player presses "End Turn", then all the players flags for that game would be reset. (The conclusion is that at least one player is unwilling to abandon)
- add something to the game info screen to show which players have their abandon game flags set.
- add something to the list of games screen to mark a game in which at least one flag is set, so that players don't end up taking their turn and using "End Turn" while being unaware that someone wants to abandon the game.
Theoretically, it sounds quite straightforward. Specifically and practically, only J-Y knows. ;D

Fairly easy. I was thinking of something much simpler - a delete game option for the game creator, though I can imagine the howls of outrage from other players if they didn't agree Will add it to the todo list, which, I may add, has not been getting any smaller for quite some time now!

I generally like this suggestion, even if I'm not afraid to resign an uneven game at present. Once we got more bugs ironed out and achieved a better balance to the game again, I would start taking the win-loss statistics seriously again, but at present? What I wonder a bit about is the rules for abandoning games? Would a simple bad start position warrent it? Something more, like bugs? Or a simple gentleman's agreement; "This game started too uneven, we want another one where we can have an equal contest."? The basic idea is sound, I'm just a little worried that some players will use it to cancel every game they are not likely to win.

Once we got more bugs ironed out and achieved a better balance to the game again, I would start taking the win-loss statistics seriously again, but at present? I agree that the stats mean nothing at the moment. I could use the resign option to get rid of obsolete games, assuming I had control of the board, which is not always the case. Gentlemen's agreement, whatever the reason. Note that the suggestion requires all players involved to agree or else nothing happens and the game merely carries on. Of course, someone wanting to abandon the game without explanation might trigger a discussion, but there's nothing wrong with that. No game could be cancelled unilaterally. If players start regularly requesting abandonments because they can't win then they will get a reputation for it and my guess is that their invitations will dry up, as will acceptances to games they initiate.
