I guess that at certain stage of development (better than basic ships and weapons) aluminium demands increase, and, I suspect, other minerals will kick in at later stages. One should keep an eye on the tehnology descriptions and anticipate the demand by building extractors on time.

Why don't you buy alu on the market? That's what I did: sold ATM unneeded resources and bought Si and Al.

I've not got the right technology to trade as yet, should have in a day or two. The Alu shortage should be over soon as I've more extractors coming online any time.

However, I will only sell Si. Note, Vegas (the stage I'm currently at) drain considerable amounts of Ti and Pt, and with destroyers Fe comes into play.

Careful, though - Vegas don't fight fighters!!! Have some Sirriuses handy as well! Or maybe Pythons or Venoms.

One can always change the strategy. In fact, that is what I propose to do in case of attack, when I know what I'm dealing with.
But I solved the alu problem much more simply - I just produced more bullet fighters (with much greater need for Si then Al) to bring down both minerals to comparable levels.

One can always change the strategy. Only to the certain extent. You cannot change ship classes that each ship can attack, only order by which those designated are shot at! There's something gramatically wrong with this last sentence...

Rather than building small quantities of each ship, wouldn't it make sense to concentrate on the "best" ship of each class, as long as it can attack the other ships in the same class?
For example only build Bullet fighters, they are the best value for money and can attack other fighters, if you do this for all ship types then you should win most battles (I think).
It would be worth building extra ships which can targets PDS, SS, Freighters etc of course, but it should reduce the number of different ship types being built which should make production easier to run.

That's not a bad idea. Does it have any drawbacks? Not that I can think of. Just need to make sure all fleets have some ships that can target all types they will encounter. Of course at the moment I can't fully implement this strategy as I can only build fighters and corvettes so I need some offense capabilities against Flagships etc, just in case anyone else has them yet!

Not me. First priority for me is to build PDSs to fight ships. Which will take at least two days, probably more.
