We need a leader. One thing I noticed with Morkin in IK was sometimes there was no positive direction, the alliance should be a democracy of course but if we had someone who felt they had the mandate to make decisions etc I think it would help us be more decisive at times.
Anyone want to put themselves forward? I would be happy with anyone really as long as they communicated well and tried to do the "right" thing.

Fine by me.
I don't want the job, though. Btw, is Marc here? He or Mads (or you, David, or... well, basically everybody but me ;D) would do the good job.

How about Timbus? It's only really in case we get into a situation where leadership is needed but nobody feels that ehy want to take control in case it offends other people. For example in IK there were times that Morkin lacked direction and we tended to over complicate things and take too long to draw up plans for action and then actually deliver the action we had planned! Does anyone agree with me or am I talking out of my donkey? I'd be happy with anyone as "leader" but it should be someone who knows the game well enough and is online often enough, so my shortlist would be, in no particular order: Harlequin of Herath Perun Matija Natmus Balthazar Soiram If I've missed you off then don't take offense, probably an oversight!

How about we agree a set of general principles for our operations. Then if a situation comes up and an individual acts in a manner consistent with our principles, the member doesn't need to check with anyone - just do it. For everything else (outside context problems as Iain M. Banks would say), why don't we use "time-sensitive posts." Set up a thread for "Proposed actions" and set a time limit for responses (short deadlines are better - say half a day max) consider the views of others and then we act accordingly.
An example of a Midnight operational principle would be that if a foreign alliance colonises a planet in the Midnight quadrant, it is our policy to attack and invade that planet asap. Any member can do this.Other principles might cover the manner in which we communicate with aggressors - do we contact them at all?/be rude to them/attempt to make peace etc.
What would be a good idea is to allocate tasks early in a conflict to avoid duplication/wastage of resources - probes etc.
Sorry if this is a bit involved, I'm in the midddle of writing the Sixth Form development plan and my mind is full of "strategic intents" and "stakeholder assurances" (b****cks basically!) Hope this helps

Sounds good to me, you got the job!
We could have leaders on a monthly (or other timescale) basis so every month we get someone else to take over if the workload is too much perhaps?
I don't think it would be too much work as 90% plus of the time the alliance runs itself.

Shall we knock out some Midnight principles? I'll start a new thread for this
