Maybe it should only be awailable to garrisons, and not to lords. This way the lords on the run for several turns, with their army diminshed by the enemy, won't be able to just disband their remaining soldiers and hide. They could still stop at a keep and drop their soldiers, but enemy could prevent that by occupying the nearby keeps.
I think this game should not degenerate into hide and seek, and the disband buttons are pointing a firm finger in that direction.

I though the whole point of disbanding was to make possible to change the race of a citadel's garrison. That does not seem to be possible, however.
I think that the simplest way to solve this would be that a garrison with strength of 0/0 is always neutral. It would also remove the bug of an empty garrison fighting his enemy and it could be tested for benefits, so that empty keeps and citadels would yeld none.

Yes, it occurred to me as well as I vainly tried to zero a garrison just to switch it into Targ...

I thought that people *wanted* the ability to drop their armies, such as when rushing to the aid of an ally in trouble, you could sacrifice your warriors so as to move more quickly, which makes sense from a tactical point of view. Have I got this wrong?

Have I got this wrong? I'm affraid so. We voted for possibility to switch race at keeps/citadels. One of suggested ways of doing that was to disband all garrisoned men and then switch to race needed (that of currently visiting lord, of course).

Must have been getting confused with the alpha - I'm pretty sure that Gaz and Stevie were keen on seeing this feature. Maybe this is a case of offering it as an option at game creation. Then you can choose to play it as you like.
