This is Robert's good point. If player wants to be sure, he recruits his first lord and then hides somewhere in some of the mountains without any army. Probability to find him easily is virtually zero. And this is not good.
There should be some sort of recruiting rules like in original LOM. And this (with Robert's another good point about Lord's abilities) should be implemented in a way that only player's lord can recruit main subordinate lords (ten to fifteen with best abilities).
That way player cannot hide anymore, because he cannot possibly win without recruiting as much troops as possible.

I agree. I think some sort of recruitment table would add spice to the game.
My strategy is to push forward with the main character until he gets tired, go recruiting behind the lines where I expect no enemy would be found, refresh, and move back to the front, to join the main striking force.

Hm, what about a chance of recruitment <1 instead of a table? Could vary with difference between recruiter and recruitee's boldness

Probability to find him easily is virtually zero. And this is not good. Unless you get lucky seeking guidance! Only took a few turns of seeking to find Ringthane in a game to find out where he had disappeared to. I don't have a problem with someone disappearing, they could always slip through your lines to regroup. The solution may be to increase the value of seeking guidance to generally report on: Non-aligned lords 40% Enemy lords 20% Enemy players 20% Allied lords 10% Magical Items 10% or something like that.
