I hope you don't mind me posting this here, but it seems the best place for it.
I'm creating a new map and wondered what size is best - how big is LOM and DDR maps?

LOM is 65 x 62 I believe. actually, it's 66x63 with outer fw borders, so inner dimensions are 64x61

My map is about 75x75 and I hope people enjoy it once it's finished.
Is there a maximum size for a map?
What do you reckon the maximum size would be in terms of a playable game?
DDR always seemed a bit characterless in terms of it's landscape compared to LOM, a case of less is more if you know what I mean - why do people think that is, if you agree of course!

Here's another suggestion for Unimapgen: expand or reduce map (add or delete rows on the top / bottom, add or delete columns on left / right)

And another one: Replace All (occurences of one name with another, in descriptions)
For example, all X of Darkwood with X of Stormwood.

Just a quick aside: please bear in mind server capacity and performance. The larger the map, the more numerous the lords, and the lord and battle tables will grow rather large very quickly.
Also bear in mind that at present the limit for number of players is 4. Make the map too big and you'll never find one another!
Having said all that, bring 'em on, I'm dying to see them! ;D

My map has exactly the LOM map dimensions. It was started at the time when that was the only possibility.
It is meant to be difficult map for experienced players: rather labyrinthine, about 30 % of terrain covered with mountains IIRC, the majority of domains practically encircled by them, and the passages between them guarded by keeps - I wanted to stress the importance of keeps and war for territory; impassable mountains would enhance it even more. There will definitely be two Dwarf lords - I made domains especially suited for them - maybe one or two more, and I'm thinking of two Giants.

You're maze at the centre of Sun's End had Ringy riding around the outside in our recent game (impassable mountains). It was fun standing in the centre and watching his flags move up and down trying to find the way in ;D

I'm also working on a map (64x48 or 64x64, haven't decided yet).
Impassable mountains would add the great deal of strategic possibilities, IMHO.
I hope to have balanced forces of different races. Spying-only creatures will be extremely sparse.

I'm TRYING to do a medium sized map, 33*33, where rider hordes frolic peacefully at the edges while the core is woven with features, lots of features, and glades and stuff, and well, maybe I'll do smt completely different. But I cannot change the domain while painting domains...

I'm having the same domain problem, when I create a new domain I can paint it fine, but when I want to go back to paint more of an old domain it wont let me.
My map is 75% finished and I have the storyline to go with it 50% done.
There is a Dragonland in the centre of my map ;D
