Raul of all people has started a thread asking for people's opinions/tips on running a war I was going to mention our tactic of "texting" which worked so well in the E~L war but came to my senses in time! Did E~L ever mention that tactic to anyone else? Is it still more-or-less a secret? Would it work again? In other news, I'm up to Suicide Squad strength now: 73 LWs, 7 cats, 850 spears and 275 archers. Gimme another month and I'll have a Strike Fleet ;D

Sorry, should have guessed that.
The first time I saw SMS'ing called texting (or txting) was in Peter F. Hamilton's "Misspent Youth". Until then, I didn't know what it was called outside Denmark.

And to answer your question: It has been mentioned somewhere but I doubt anyone registered it. So it's probably good not stating it as a strategy.

Its always a good stratagy as the defender will never know for certain where the reall main strike force is coming from, and when exactly.

I think they thought we didn't understand how the game worked. "Why are these idiots attacking with merchants? ?" So I don't think they realised that it was a cunning strategy.

Actually, before we started executing the PWS plan I noticed from a conversation with Xalthorn that he at least knew of this kind of strategy, so although it is true someone in Morkin (was it Henning or Ciaran ?) came up with this independently, it appears at least Xalthorn has followed a similar parallel path of ingenuity.
And I thought that my plan to keep the main strikeforce constantly at sea and using a timer/alarmclock to make sure it was never in port for more than 6 minutes was a radical innovation as well until Xalthorn actually adviced me to develop such a scheme...
The morale: don't be too certain that others haven't reached similar conclusions or developed likewise ideas about this game.
We were just incredibly lucky to have picked a top 20 alliance which in the truest sense of the word was decadent and in a state of decay and disarray. Lord_of_Chaos recently told me he was personally shocked that E~L wasn't able to fend for themselves against a top 60 alliance like ours. Which means that against another top 20 alliance we would indeed have perished utterly.

In all fairness, the texting (yes, I have learned to call it that) was suggested to me by BaldHug.
