So as not to be totally useless, they could be assasins - have a decent chance, say 40%, of outright assasinating an enemy lord (scratch him with a poisoned thorn or something). Maybe not the king, though, they being too well protected and having their own food tasters and such.

Hell, yes. Raises back another strong point - armyless lords. The Wise should have morale/efficiency bonuses, Dragons the same PLUS be treated as +/- 500 rider-armies, and cool idea for skulkrin, but 40% is too much of a cinch!, could make it 15-25% according to skulkrin tiredness.

40% was just a blind shot. I put it so high because the skulkrin would get massacred if it doesn't succeed.

And another idea: the Wise might know spells that would cause massive damage to enemy troops, but would tire them utterly.

Hm, no... the battle engine would cause them to die if put in the same battle with troops, remember? Unless that an army-like life akin to the one I suggest for Dragons...

'fraid so. Skulkrin are always terrified. This is pretty much a non-issue at the moment, as they are there as " decoration" until I can think of what to do with them.
The assassin route seems to be the most likely, though only against armyless lords and NOT against Wise or dragons. Also, a lower chance of success against Fey as they are masters of concealment and tracking themselves.

Perhaps stealth can be modelled in the engine by a stealthy lord only being detectable in the same square if he has no army?
Fey could be stealthy in forests (as if they need another advantage), and skulkrin could be stealthy always. Then they would make very good scouts...

You mean that skulkrin would not appear in the "There are x enemy lords nearby" message.
Good idea, and v. easy to implement.

If you are going the route of assassination, then I have a suggestion.
Could the skulkrin be invisible to others unless you were in the same location as them? That way they really do gain the benefit of stealth and concealment.

And how do u mean to end a game in "kill all enemy's underlings" variant? Potenital winner after killing all visible lords should set his units in a row and search like the mines in field?

I like the idea of the proximity of skulkrin not being reported, but I think they should be visible from adjacent locations if someone is facing them. If they were to become completely invisible to those around them, it should only apply to certain locations that offer hiding places (empty strongholds, ruins, caverns etc.)

Not reporting the presence of skulkrin would be a step back towards micro-management IMHO. I wouldn't like it to happen.
Maybe when gold is implemented, the skulkrin could get a better chance at finding it?
