JY, could we have some more information about what one can discover at various sites, and what is the probability of finding it?
And did I understand correctly that the goods (and bads) are randomly distributed for each new game?

For each terrain type, there is a lookup table of possible items that can be found there. each of these items has a lower and an upper boundary that gives it a slice of 100% (eg at lakes, WOL is 1-90, whilst Stagnant Waters (SW) is 90-100).
When the game is created, I loop through all locations that have item type records associated with them, and given a random number between 1 and 100, one of these records is picked. In the above example there is a 10% change of SW at a lake, 90% probability of WOL. Some terrain types have a gap in the 1-100 range, so that if the number falls in that gap, nothing is placed there.
Hope that makes some sense!

It does make sense. But are lists for each terrain the same as in previous versions (with corrected probabilities) or not? Can shelter still be found at keeps and citadels, or is searching there useless?

I see what you mean - no, seeking at citadels/keeps is pointless now. here are the items and their probabilities: please report any circumstances where there is an obvious bug, eg at start of game if lake yields nothing, that is wrong L = lith H = Henge E = Lake S = Snowhall V = Village N = Cavern R = Ruin .

Thanks. That's exactly what I wished to know.

Have I understood it correctly that if you search one time and any given feature, and nothing is found, then subsequent searches also will yield nothing?
In other words, first search will always find an object if there is something, right?

please report any circumstances where there is an obvious bug, eg at start of game if lake yields nothing, that is wrong. I believe it happened twice now. And I'm almost certain no one was there before me. Will test further.

yes me too.
I haven't looked at the item dispersal script for quite some time, so I'll check it again.

Hey, where have those tables disappeared to? May I have them back, please? At least to copy them?
