I must admit that i dont have a clue about the battlerules anymore.
It would be a nice if someone could make a brief conclusin about them here, and it could be used as a basis also for the upcoming manual.
It shouls include basic battlerules including numbers, lords, courage, strenght, and of course various bonuses of different terrains like Citadel, ruins forest etc.

Very briefly -
The factors that affect battle outcomes are:
Courage Energy Army size
You get a "hit" bonus if:
- Your lord is mounted (very minor bonus) - You are in allied stronghold (more for Citadels than Keeps) - You are a dragon or a wise
Your lord cannot die if he has an army. When a lord has 0R and 0W, the factors that determine whether he lives or dies are:
- Courage - Energy - Size of enemy army - Wise and Dragons are less likely to die
If the lord does not die, he has a 50/50 chance if being un-horsed (if he is on one of course!)

And garrisons are favoured by an exceptional bonus, or is it just that they always benefit from the same stronghold modifier as any exterior lord?

They get the same bonus as any other lord in an allied stronghold.

When you say army, is that a single lord's army, or total of all armies present belonging to the same player?

The lord's own army. Therefore a lord with 100 men and an ally present with 2,500 men will still fight at a strength of 100 men, not 2,600.

Then maybe you should consider a bonus for allies, making ambushes even more deadly.

One to think about. What are the implications of such a thing though? Here are my initial thoughts
PROS Allows small armies to have stronger effect, giving weaker players a chance to play Robin Hood style tectics
CONS Stringer players will also band together armies of 2,500 men, leading to games where armies are more concentrated and therefore ,IMO, less intersting.

It will still be interesting if it's only a hit bonus, keeping casualties prorata. Like, an army of 100 allied with an army of 2000 will cause roughly 5% (100/2100) more casualties THAN what it would cause with the present model.
BUT I like the present algorithm. y? i?
