How about some thoughts on how to beat the other beta testers. I am sure that we all have our own styles of playing, even if they have to be adapted for each game?

Get a good starting position and a 3:1 advantage in lords. That ought to do the trick every time. ;D ;D ;D

I think the only tester I have played against enough to have a feel for is Fernando, and Fernado's style is pretty fluid. Or he play a lot on impulse, at least. At one time he tried a strategy of moving all his armies in one big pile, but he gave that up again. Even so, one thing is clear on Fernando, and that is his agressiveness. Give him a good start and he will attack the first enemy he encounters with everything he has close. So beware of that, even it also is opportunity to kill off a few of his armies if you can concentrate enough at the right place. Matija, who I have a feel for as well, is a lot more cautious. He likes having groups of armies located in different places, but will pull them together in one big group if threathened. So the trick there is to sneak up him and isolate a group before he withdraw into one group. And Matija is patient, oh so patient. He can easily wait for his opponents to make a mistake I think the 12 citadels VC can force Matija to change his strategy, but that can be said for a lot of us. Personally I think I'm in the middle of Fernando and Matija, sometimes aggressive, sometimes cautious, sometimes playing on an impulse, sometimes making elaborate schemes

You're right about Fernando. Put something nice and juicy in front of him and he will go for it. A citadel, say! Also, I'd say that I played the same as you, probably more on the Matija end of things than Ringy. Let the enemy come to me at a place of my choosing

Well, with 60 games played ;D I think I have got the feel of at least four players, namely
- Natmus:
Unpredictable. Stay out of woods and create three 10+ strong divisions, assuming balance. Never, ever, wait for him. Move first and be everywhere. Mads tend to be slightly irritable.
- Matija:
Mads is right. Matija has patience and is very very tactful. Unbeatable I'd say at defense. So the best thing is to make him attack. He'll never attack in the same solid fashion as he will defend, so the window will be open for purely tactical hesitations. Conquer stuff. Occupy the land. Create territorial domination.
- Dai:
Dai will play with a mix of fun and safety. In all the games we played, he was always trying to advance as fast as possible but never willing to leave more than one single-lord assault front. I'd like to play against him with the new time penalties, because that would certainly influence his strategy. The best way I found to beat Dai was placing two seekers at work, since he usually leaves his king somewhat in the background, and forcing him to come into my heartlands wondering why there's no armies in his direct path - but rather moving around the E/W lanes to get at his king. Once he committed four lords and a dragon to killing my Spider and failed ;D
- Premis:
The man plays logical. If he has a good start, and oh has he been lucky, he will not make a mistake, so unless your start is equally good, it will all be decided like a game of chess. The best way to defeat Premis would be (I haven't managed yet) to make an unpredictable gamble, for example, starting in the NW and moving first on the opposite quadrants, doubling back later, always harassing his recruiters. Sounds hard, and it is hard, but I think that Mislav cannot handle illogical moves that well.

I have only played with Fernando and Mads enough to be able to predict a little what they'll do in a certain situation: Mads will do the thing that will inconvenience me the most, and Fernando something crazy that I, in his place, would never do. Mads can only be beaten by advantage in numbers, but Fernando's weakness is his king - not enough soldiers to last in a major battle, and voulnerable alone.
But I agree, a better recruitment and advantage in numbers will do the trick every time, I suspect even with 12c VC.

Anyone played Bill recently? I'm about to engage in a little gamette against him and Mickey Mouse, and wandered whether I should be made aware of any, ahem, personality traits.
Ali, you've fought him a few times haven't you?

As much as I can tell, Bill plays very similarly to Dai.

Anyone played Bill recently? I'm about to engage in a little gamette against him and Mickey Mouse,... I wondered when someone would think of calling me that More precisely, I feared this day would come From what I've seen of Kelebugger, he is a rather solid player. Sure, he is a newbie that doesn't know the location of any lord that wasn't in the original LOM ( ), but apart from that I haven't seen him make many mistakes. Reminds me of Matija, good on intelligence, and doesn't waste lords or troops in insignificant skirmishes. IMHO not like Dai at all, but then I never played that much against Dai either to really get to know him.

Actually, I don't think we've ever played. The only game we were both in was abandoned without a turn being taken.

Sure, he is a newbie that doesn't know the location of any lord that wasn't in the original LOM ( ) You're not going to let me live down forgetting to recruit Ishmalay, are you? Oh well, it's a good job I won that one or else I really would have been a laughing stock. I agree with one thing: from the little I've seen of Dai's style, I don't think we're all that similar at all, but then compared to the beringed one we're surely all of us cautious players.

No, he's not like Dai at all. I guess our styles are somewhat similar, now that you mention it.
