Two, rather obvious tips:
1) It is unwise to drive your king deep into unknown territory where he might be discovered and set upon by enemy troops, utterly exausted and all help far away.
2) Try to finish lord's day at a good site, with, ideally, less than 1 hour left, then Seek.

Far eastern and western lanes provide great corridors for light (unregimented) lords to outflank and create a backstabbing corps.

It seems the main strategy early on is just recruit, recruit, recruit. Saves being outnumbered later in the game.
It would be interesting to try a strategy where you recruited half-a-dozen local lords and strongly garrisoned a smallish area like Gard or Xajorkith where you could set watches on the approaches, place minor lords in the outer keeps, yourself in the Citadel and garrison like crazy.

When your lord gets tired, stop at the lake and Seek repeatedly. Even if you are very unlucky and it takes you more then two days, the recovery is still much faster.
Resting (not moving) a whole day only recovers one stage, and there's about 10 of them, I think.

Doomdark seems to ba a lousy warrior. Did anyone try giving his soldiers to The Hand? Is he any better? Poor old Doomy. Actually, other than player-lords who always start out utterly courageous and skulkrin who always start and REMAIN terrified (even with blood of courage), *all other lords' courage is set randomly for each game*. None of them start out terrified though, so they can all attack at least, even if they do get hammered for it. If people would prefer, I can up the starting range so less lords start out as cowards, or do you like the challenge?

Create all rider armies. This is the BEST tip that I can give you. You will gain a huge advantage by being able to arrive an hour earlier than an army on foot.
Where you have a snivelling coward on foot, drop all his men at a stronghold (create one if necessary and gain a power of vision). use that lord as a recruiter/spy. Spies are essential - you can run the enemy ragged, then as Fernando says, use the flanks to attack with Utterly Courageous cavalry.
Never, ever take a tired army into mountains. Mountains are deliberately set to exhaust you. However, Torkren can walk through mountains as though they were plains. I will add a couple of new dwarf lord in the centre and North soonish, to balance that factor out.
Skulkrin are best left strategic viewpoints, or at Towers to give you guidance. However, they don't get the best results - the braver the lord the higher the chance of getting guidance on enemies rather than your own troops.
Use fey travel advantage in forests to create ambushes.
That's all for now, I'll think of more later...
