In game 87 - Enola Fey, day 11 - Ringthane has just captured one of my caravans while it was guarded by one of my armies at the same location.
This bug must absolutely be eradicated before v1.0, or else protecting caravans becomes pointless.

I'm pretty sure that this was discussed before - in any case it's in the new version you will be pleased to hear.
[CORRECTION] Just realised it's not in the next version - I have a couple of late changes done (including this one) which I don't feel are well enough tested, so they will be out tomorrow instead.

I'm pretty sure that this was discussed before Ah, sorry, I didn't see that. It came as quite a shock to have a caravan I thought as reasonably safe taken away from me, not to mention having its contents used to refresh the enemy... No problem really. It's just that ut is a crucial factor which radically changes the nature of games, so it obviously needs rectifying. It's good to know that the problem was known.

I found it quite natural, so I didn't even think of reporting it... I mean, your troops had consumed all the liquid part of the stores, leaving the edibles for my stout men to get ;D Your people were all doing the sleeping act by the time I nabbed the carts...

Actually, this one was two bugs in one!
Bug 1: Ringy was able to capture a caravan while it was guarded.
Bug 2: Ringy was able to capture a caravan at night.
Neither of those things should be allowed - and from the original description of caravan behaviour they were not meant to be possible.

Bug 2: Ringy was able to capture a caravan at night. That at least should be fixed as of 10 minutes ago - try it out and let me know

Now that you have removed the loophole that allowed caravans to move away from battles, it's crucial that the enemy can't supply himself from the caravan before the fight is over.

Done.
Please could you engineer it so that you create a situation where you can test it?

Now that you have removed the loophole that allowed caravans to move away from battles, it's crucial that the enemy can't supply himself from the caravan before the fight is over. Why not? One could always bring a caravan to 1 square of battle, exit it with his lords to refresh then re-enter it. Since there is no way of stopping that, why not allow a caravan to simply enter battle.

Since there is no way of stopping that, why not allow a caravan to simply enter battle. Because bringing a caravan within reach of a battle is a risk in itself. There's nothing to stop the enemy from moving the battle to where the caravan is therefeore immobilising it. One of the aspects that was very poor before caravans was that people could just sit in the strongholds and wait to be attacked. Since they'd be able to refresh all the time and attackers couldn't, the defender would always win. With caravans it is possible to mount active campaigns again. However, if your enemy can just help himself to your stores any any time, we'll get back to people just sitting in strongholds, where stores can't be stolen from without defeating the present armies first.

Bill, as caravan-king (how many do you have in Enola Fey?!!!), could you let me know whether you are happy that this bug can be closed?

Bill, as caravan-king ( how many do you have in Enola Fey?!!!) As many as possible. Under the current rules there is no other sensible course of action. I think it should be OK, but we need the Targlet to confirm. So far I have never run into anyone else's caravans, so I can't check for myself. I've certainly lost no more caravans, but the question is this: "When a caravan is in a battle on the day after the initial attack, can the enemy capture it?" He won't be able to capture it on the attack day because he'll be at night, but on the second day he'll be during the day. I don't think we've had the actual problem yet. I'll try and set it up in the test game with Mads. It should only take a few turns to test.
