Did someone order sandwiches? Now you know how my men feel further east, where some utterly exhausted fellow got himself surrounded by a whole bunch of lurker types, and boy can they lurk!

One of my men was feeling a little scared and though to test his courage in a local ruin. Lost a few men after being jumped by some lurking dwarves!

Alas, the walls are breached and Gorgrath burns. Foul mauraders and dark elves roam it's empty streets seeking a foe that has long departed.

Alas, the walls are breached and Gorgrath burns. Well, it's been quite a while finding out what was going on, but Gorgrath has indeed fallen. The damage is superficial though, as I need the city myself. Which was in fact a mistake! ;D ;D ;D I love it when a plan comes together, and this plan has been one big bluff from start to finish. I threw everything I had in the west at Gorgrath, which means that had you stayed and fought it out I may have been in deep trouble. My hope was that you would do exactly what you did, and retreat to save troops. Good old Merlin wasn't spared the mind-games either. I engaged in a long and relatively pointless battle over the unrecruited Athoril, while my tired Targ kept the attention of quite a few armies at Trorn. All meant to delay him from the real targets, which were the citadels of course. Marakith was my really weak point. It had about 300 men defending it, and would have fallen if anyone attacked it, making a full house almost impossible to achieve. Fortunately, no one paid it much attention. ;D Yes, I am gloating. You bet I am! (OK, OK, I had a reasonable starting position and the early retirement was a big bonus, but who's counting?)

I was nothing more than a bit part... indeed I considered retiring very early on. bumped into Taeorn on Day 2 at shimeril, and he headed through thrall... I guess he'd met somone near blood, and when he retired I guessed he met someone at marakith.
Which confirmed I was surrounded... proved later when I bumped into both of you within the next day or so.

I got there only just before your Shimeril did, so had Taeorn got that far, he'd have taken Marakith easily. Well, I thought my expansion from Gloom to Tujarg was mainly due to Taeorn's resignation, but if he started in the southeast that can't be the case. Or did you start in the southeast? I had assumed that Freiegeister had started there because my first contact with him was when he advanced towards Korkith from the south. Indeed, I only just beat him to it. Very strange.

I started somewhere between shimeril and dawn. I chose to gamble and headed for Shimeril and potentially blood. I seeked at a lith and got dawn and made it to shimeril day one... then my browser barfed and I was back before the lith, the seek resulted in nothing and I therefore made it to Shimeril day 2. I couldn'tr recruit until the morning, and Taeorn was at the gates, he decided to just move on... Something like that...

Well played Cele!
Even had I considered that you could be close to grabbing your twelve it may not have made much of a difference as I would have lost Gorgrath before reinforcements could have arrived.
I started about two leagues north of the Keep of the Sun, and arrived at the Citadel of the Moon that night. I guessed I was in the North West and turned around sending Luxor South to pick up whoever he could.
Losing Korkith was a big surprise as I was heading there personally when Farflame was killed. I ended up back at Moon recuperating for the rest of the game from my initial run. Had a shocking time seeking for refreshment this game.
Amelista and Ogrim fared the worst, spending the whole time from when I recruited her sitting exhausted at Lake Gloom from poisoned water. Never had a chance to use them and Lothoril to take Gloom.
