there's been discussion on it. I think the consensus is that we have to do it because it makes sense, rather than someone telling us to do it. a couple of the senior staff are very much in favour.

the talks are along the morkin framework; eg more agressive, less agressive alliances.

in the medium term I think its in the cards. things will get really boring otherwise. that's just my opinion.

Digg isn't a democracy. it's more of a republic. we elect leaders to make decisions for us. unless its put to a vote; then it'll be a democratic process.

I think the leadership wisely decided not to put it to a vote given the circumstances (the lead up to the pantheon war) because they knew that it wouldn't pass. non-staff put up their own polls and it was almost unanimous against. but people were perceiving it as a 'gun to head' situation.

two of the senior staff (people you probably wouldn't expect) are hugely fora split, given that its voluntary. but if there's any perception of pressure from external forces, the general membership will shout them down. the internal politics has been pretty interesting to watch. the proponents of a split want to pick their time. Digg will get a victory if we split after a success against Pantheon. because we can truly say that it was in consideration from long before the start of their campaign. the people in Digg are geeks (I am, that's for sure). they don't like being told what to do. if the leadership says 'this is a good thing', they will likely be all for it.

anyway, just my analysis. your mileage may vary.

Well I'v asked to get limited forum access to relay info and help them out as we dont want to force them to split, but instead help them make the server a more fun place to be

Thank you for being reasonable about this. I know that you are not threatening us, but digg will see it that way.

I understand why you would join as well, and I have been pushing for a restructuring mid war to maximize our control over the situation. We split now and we control how it happens. If we end up losing this war and are forced to split, then we cannot make the rules.

My main other selling point is that we be allowed to continue operations after we choose to split. I am not calling for the destruction of Pantheon, only being able to continue to hit the memebrs of Pantheon that want the destruction of digg not just the splitting of digg (I think you know some of them).

A couple of other questions. Does digg need to split now, or can we offer a plan to split? A digg split will be harder to do than Pantheon because we started together. Is there a problem splitting into Digg1, Digg2 and so on until the actual detail can be worked out?

He said he'll move the discussion into our embassy board on the digg forum, as he wants us to see what they're discussing. I'm actually quite encouraged by this display of trust.

I asked about this. the reception was generally favourable. we have an embassy section. I don't have access to the stuff the diplomats do. I'm not sure who in Morkin has access to that area. if you were to request access through one of your diplomats or something, that might work.

so: if you want to see/review. I'd say send an IGM to scoots or meatpopsicle and ask for embassy access. or have a diplomat do it for you. the thread hasn't been moved yet (I don't think). need something to prompt them.
