What's that "logo" on the left shoulder?
Anyway, a thing I've been wondering, how dangerous are the jumps, in themselves? I mean, how many injuries does a soldier get on average - and are the war zone jumps any different from the training jumps or does the training actually mimic real situations?

Not trying to hijack Ash's thread, but... Training jumps are obviously less risk because nobody is shooting at you Of course, we tinker with altitudes, equipment, and speeds that are not always used on combat jumps, so the risk fluctuates. For instance, we had a jump with the 75th Ranger Regiment where we landed on a pavement airstrip (airfield seizure exercise), and came in at normal speed +30%, and at 800-ft altitude ("normal" ranges from 1500-2500), and with 150 pounds of gear. Suffice it to say, when you come in that low, fast, and heavy, a pavement airstrip is very unforgiving. The biggest dangers are the static line (getting caught up on yours or the one in front of you upon exit, and getting an instant-amputation), having a chute malfunction (reserves are smaller, and hence you hit harder - you'll get breaks, but not dead), and obviously landing (you hit at about 22ft/sec, so a hazard, such as trees or rocks, can bust you up fairly easily - imagine jumping out of a 2nd story window and relying on rolling with the landing to absorb the impact). 90% of the injuries I have seen are a product of static line or landings. I've jumped over 40 times, from various aircraft (CASA-212 primarily, a half-dozen C-130, and a couple of UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters), and seen probably 20 injuries, maybe 5 that would classify as "severe" enough to put a guy in the hospital for more than a few hours. The patch on the left shoulder is the Special Forces unit patch. It's an arrowhead, with a dagger and lightning crossing through it. Standard unit identifier for 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 10th Special Forces Group. It has an "Airborne" tab above it, as do all airborne-unit patches (i.e., XVIII Airborne Corps, 101st Airborne Division, 82d Airborne Division, various special ops units, and various support-brigades).

No, it's simply a little operation on the side. It's done in full understanding with Morkin and COrleth, but it will be appreciated if everybody pretends not to have noticed.

lol, someday I have to get access to this 'secret operations' section. I always explain Corleth as the 'We don't ask questions' branch of Corleth.
