Personal details in brief. 38 years old, Dane, IT-dude, plays volleyball, fishing, birdwatching. Read a lot, mainly history, thrillers, SF/fantasy ( hates Pratchett, he has one joke that he has used umpteen million times and it wasn't that funny to start with! GRRM much more to my liking.) Political. Currently 'main' isle Kyholm and two colonies under construction. Previous achievements in IK.uk: Planning the taking down of the LadyHawke/DarkLady/PhoenixPhlare multi. Brilliantly executed by all of Morkin, I might add. Planning the Winter Solstice War down to the minutes both the decoys and the real attacks hit E~L, fighting the war for more than a week, and then suddenly on my own call a stop to the fighting when E~L asked us to stop. We really expected to lose that war and go down fighting, but... Minor scraps all thorugh winter and spring of '06, there wasn't a week where somebody didn't try to steal some Morkin colony or the other. Then the Stomer war. Lastly the originater of a very black-ops type operation that stressed slayer to leave the .uk server. Never-ending, very bitter, personal feud with Raul. Oh, more relevant to the .com server. I am now capable of building cats, and have my very first under construction. Aja has ten or so of them already, but then she never suffered to have a peace treaty with them WAR guys

No, sorry, haven't read it. Thought about reading his historical novels (crusades, right?). I must say that I have to put a lot of time between reading interviews with him and reading his novels, if I am to enjoy the novels at all

Too bad. Personally I alway like getting "the other side's" view on things, and hear their arguments, just to keep my argumentative skills sharp. But then it's not like I have to go looking for my "the other side's " view on things, it's getting fed to me through most media Jan Guillou has some very interesting viewpoints, and I far from agree with all the things he talk about. For example would I prefer for Vladimir Putin to get the same treatment as for example Bush in "Madame Terror". Sure, Guillou does mention that Putin has practically abolished democracy in Russia, and rules through secret police just like the 'old days', but then for the rest of the book Putin mainly helps the Palestinians to accomplish their goals, even if they also serve his interests as much as their own. But that's maybe something Guillou had to swallow to make the plot feasible, without Putin's goodwill there would have been no Palestinian sub.

Oh, I must have expressed myself in a less than clear manner. It's not that I disagree with him, it's that I find him morally repulsive I don't mind reading novels or indeed more serious work by people I disagree with (Orson Scott Card came to mind here). But with Guillou, who openly revels in his experiences of ruining other peoples careers and lives, I simply have the problem of putting enough space between the author and the novels. Reading the review of the book, I couldn't help thinking about the Dan Simmons book Olympos, though Maybe I should wait even longer before I read it ;D

I quite enjoyed Ender's Game by Orson Card but have not yet had the fortune to read any of his others novels. I believe my brother is slowly purchasing and reading them, perhaps I will just steal the books off him when he has finished with them.
Olympos was certainly a strange book, whilst I'd say it was 'good' I'm not entirely sure why. It's certainly more random than other books of the sci-fi genre but then again it is trying to mix ancient history (which if I remember rightly he gets wrong in places but that I can forgive) with futuristic concepts, which can be hard to conceptualise in the first place.

I'm going to be away most of Saturday, volleyball tournament with team dinner afterwards. I hope you can manage without me. Please don't launch any of my fleets unless it's an emergency. I'll be home sometime late evening and will kill whoever you want then.

Nowhere, it's not started yet.
eproxy is trying to reason with Troain as he is somewhat friendly with him. exproxy seems to think that Troain doesn't belive Fishcult colonised first and assuming he can make him realise that was the sequence of events then MX will let Fishcult have the island back for some compensation.
We're waiting until eproxy can chat to Troian on MSN.
