Just realised after 2ks post that I never got round to creating a thread about my self so here it goes.
My full name is James Gornall, from Bradford West Yorkshire much like Eproxy, digital and Ruku.
Studied Software Engineering at university and enjoyed first year but not enough to warrant the cost in tuition.
Currently applying to be part of the RAF, which I am really looking forward to doing and hope I get in!

What part of the RAF are you applying for?
My late father was a pilot, I applied myself but got turned down due to my eyesight, they did suggest I try for ground crew but I didn't fancy that at the time.
Good luck!

Pilot, or a weapon systems officer. Both require good eyesight which is the one thing I'm nervous of. I'd happily be part of infantry though. There for the time not the pay. Fancy em both, something more prestige about a pilot though

I'm fairly intelligent, very athletic, have a good work ethic, but my eyesight is awful. I'm not sure I'd be accepted into any branch of the military. Good luck with that Gornall

Eyesight is only an issue if you want to fly fast jets, if you are happy enough flying a transport like a Hercules, or some kind of AWACs then you can wear glasses or contact lenses.
Problem with fast jets is if you wore contact lenses and did a 9g turn, you'd find the contacts either fall out or catastrophically enter your eye-ball, either way not good, especially if you're trying to evade an incoming missile!
;D
Are you into aircraft?

Also make sure there is no doubt as to whether you would happily bomb the crap out of anyone: If they ask what you would do if you couldn't become a pilot: architect or computer programmer is not a good choice. Police officer or soldier are better responses.
I could have got into the RAAF but for my answers on the psych questions.

That's a good point, it seems glamorous being a pilot until you need to blow people to bits, or risk getting shot down in some foreign country.

lol cheeky Chiavata!, as tall as you now mate It might sound cold but I don't think I'd have a problem with it, and I am already planning on joining the forces as a gunner/infantry if I don't make it as a pilot. I aint just going for the glamour though I would love it. In answer to Skulk, I wouldnt call my self an aviation buff by any means but I am always impressed by achievements of engineering. I look at some of them jets in awe and wonder how something that heavy and that big can be so quick and agile.

Those large jets can be quite graceful in the sky; I prefer the Harriers though, vertical takeoff/landing for the win!

Yeh very cool I gotta admit.
The new typhoons are just amazing though.
I would lay down my life if I got the opportunity to fly one of them, nevermind getting paid to do it.

You need to get acquainted with planes, being a plane-spotter will help you when it gets to the interview stage. In my interview, they asked me what kind of planes the RAF fly out of Hong Kong, I wasn't certain of the answer to that one.
Luckily for you there's lots of plane related resources on the net.
If you are serious about getting in, then you really need to work hard at it, ask yourself why should they choose you over the hundreds of other applicants they have.
The RAF is extremely picky about who it chooses for it's pilots and for good reason, it's tougher to get in now than ever as they take on so few new pilots due to government cutbacks in the defence budget.
If you aren't very, very well prepared, you will fail.
