Bit of background to this thread: Running my monitor at 1600x1200 has always had its downfalls, ie. decent backgrounds. Usually I just end up putting smaller images (ie. 1024x768) in the centre with a decent colour surrounding them. Sometimes though if I really want a specific one I just have to make my own backgrounds - plus it gives me something to do The most recent desire of mine was a background consisting of digital rain seen, most famously, in The Matrix. Personally I felt the two official available digital rain wallpapers weren't quite right, especially the first. So after just three hours of work, most of it just getting Adobe Photoshop CS2 to run properly, I have available my first version: Matrix Digital Rain v1.01It's still not finished since half the digital rain needs tidying up still but I got bored so decided to have a break (hence this post). I'm also going to add some proper text over the top. That is of course if I ever get around to editing it further. Oh and my own work is based off someone else's tutorial with some minor changes here and there. Added; Just some more technical(ity) stuff; the actual characters used aren't the same as in The Matrix film - this one just uses the characters generated by opening this picture in Notepad.

If your interested the font used in the matrix digital rain is Katakan rotated 90 degrees either left or right. I used to have a font that substituted English characters for Katakan characters. I'll do a bit of digging to see if I can find one. After reading the wiki article you should already know about the above statement www.dafont.com/katakana.font << good font. www.typenow.net/themed.htm << Matrix Movie Font Also on a quick look at your big version you might want to put a few more layers on and then apply a layer mask with a gradient on it so it fades the bottom out more.

I don't want just a matte fade at the bottom though, I'd need to use differnt masks for different heights. Although having said that I do know a way of doing it. The main reason it's like that really is because I was only half-way through editing out the vertical lines (originally there were alot more at the bottom). If/when I carry it on that'll be my first port of call.
Oh yeah and I knew about the characters (I'd also found that dafont Katakana font too) - I just couldn't be bothered so did it the lazy way (although my PC took a bit too long to keep on renedering the unusual symbols vertically). There are currently 3 text layers and if I'm honest I don't think I'll be adding more.
There is actually a couple of pieces of legit text in there too if you can find them... not that they should be hard to find ><

Looking good.
If its to be used as a wallpaper though I would give it some kind of fade out to black around the edges.
Make the digital rain central with a black border for your icons and such. Could imagine it looking a bit hectic with icons over top of it thought.
Looking pretty mint mate, nice.

I quite like how it goes up against the edges, here it is on my own desktop. Oh and for those that are unfamiliar with my usual style I always have the icons around the edge, and yes one of those corners is pretty much dedicated to Inselkampf I quite like how the picture name and version hide neatly behind the system tray as well. I was quite impressed with the shade of green as well, originally I used one much 'greener' but then I saw the pics and shades on the Matrix website (and the second official wallpaper in the first post). Added; dammit I was supposed to start doing some work! alas it shall be an even later night now

Finally your secret is out! Me and ruku have known about his secret fetish for Excel spreadsheets, it's disgusting.
Having said that I have my own that I fire up once a day to update. It's even got pretty colours and some useful information that even the current database doesn't have.

I'll look into fading out the edges then - I'll probably do them as two seperate versions, an edges faded and a full rain one.
Only three of those are IK excel documents and two are hardly in use. The References I use mainly to compare Catapult damages and the Build Me is kind of obsolete when I have nothing to build (or at least relative to when I made it). The Timetable one is my Uni Timetable (v. useful hehe) and the gwtodo is for Guild Wars - which I havn't played in a while but should do.
