So, I just passed my favorite bookshop for the first time in a month or so. What do I see is decorating one of the windows? Ken Follett's new novel World without End, with a very medieval looking theme on the cover. AND it is promoted as the sequel to The Pillars of the EarthHas anyone read it? Is this new one as good as Pillars?

I'm still waiting for the next Song of Fire and Ice book and a couple of other books, different authors, to come out in paper-back

I've really gotten back into Song of Fire and Ice book 3 now. I read the first 50 pages and gave up but now I'm nearly 400 pages in and am loving it again. That and the fact I just read a Lesbica! sex page which was a bit surreal.

I hated the third one, A Storm of Swords. It was filled with weddings, and every time some wedding was about to start I just skipped past it and moved forward to the next action part. Why did GRRM put that many stupid weddings into one book? Nobody cares what happens at weddings! Is he trying to branch into the romance market? Anyway, I skipped all the wedding parts of the book, and I don't think I missed a thing!

Take my word: Soon enough the people of Westeros will begin to get married left, right and centre. The first one isn't that bad, but believe me: You really, really, really want to skip past the next one.

Joffrey - Some girl Sansa - Some Tyrel man? Cersei - Some poor Bastardo! Tyrion - Definitley not Shae

I'm not going to comment until you at least have come past the third wedding.

Arg I'm tempted to skip them now Oh, I'm kidding. Or being heavily sarcastic. The weddings are really some of the dramatic highlights of this book, and especially the second and third weddings will leave you in shock. The fourth one, while not being very dramatic, does keep a submerged storyline about the long term plottings of a certain Machiavellian character alive. And moves them forward in a giant step.

Also, pay very close attention when Bran is told the story about The Knight of the Laughing Tree. On the surface it's pretty easy to decode, but it's very easy to make a fatal wrong assumption about the identity of the mystery knight. However, try putting another person present at the tourney in as the mystery knight, and suddenly everything makes sense. And by everything I mean Rheagar, Robert's rebellion, Eddard's promise, and what happened at the Tower of Joy. And Jon.
Remember, the Dragon has three heads.

I just read that bit last night, it was a bit strange, it was familiar but I'm still none the wiser. I'll read it again in a bit and see if it makes more sense, but to be honest I have real trouble understanding who is who, there's far to many names thrown about.
