For some reason I seem to be getting a very poor output from my extraction facilities on various planets. On one planet I've got 28 silica's running, but it's only yielding 140 silica per hour. Also on another planet I have a plutonium extractor running, but it's producing nothing?
Am I missing something simple here?

Your home planet produces resources at a standard rate eg 100%
colonised planets produce resources according to their distribution which can be seen from their home planet under resource distribution.
so a planet might only produce silica at 50% and Aluminium at 140%
try to build the most appropriate extractors for the planet. In the example above I would build Aluminium extractors
Also to prevent one player getting all the planets there is a production penalty if you have more than one planet under 50% full.
There should be a message on your planet home page if you are incurring a production penalty.
the production penalty affects all planets and is -20% per under utilised planet

You have too many under-developed planets, meaning less than 50% of ground space is being used. You incur a cumulative 20% penalty to production for each of these planets except the first. The penalty affects all planets, even fully-developed ones and is additional to each planets own natural penalties.
