I've already got a planet that is mostly a Kalamite farm. At the moment I've amassed about 5k kalamite crystals. It is at least 10-15% more expensive by my reckoning, but we do live in an instant society. Convert loads of Kalamite into crystals and then stick it on freighters orbiting the planet. Then when you get incoming dump the crystals on the planet and buy a huge fleet to surprise the incoming, any probes they have sent wont pick up either the fleet or loads of Kalamite, although they might think it a bit odd if you've 50 Kalamite extractors! This also relies on the incoming fleet coming from another quadrant and taking more than 6 hours which is the delivery time from the traders.

10-15%?
Adder fighter costs 1500 resources (800 Si + 400 Al + 200 U + 100 Ka). When you buy it, it costs 21 crystal, or 4200 Ka.
Dragon flagship costs 199535 resources (see table for details). When you buy it, it costs 2796 crystals, or 559200 Ka.
That's exactly 280% in both cases.

Prices are actually even bigger - I didn't add any interest. So, actual cost is about 300%.

Hmm, not worth doing then! It depends. Everything you buy arrives in 6 hours. Big ships take up to 15 hours to build, not counting building of weapons. So, when speed is of essence and one needs large ships, it is better to buy then build, no matter the cost.
