I can't help personally, but my fleets are at your disposition as a defence, and my freighters and transports are ready!

Just sent a probe to our new neighbour in Midnight: Target Coordinates 001:02:4:30 Planet 001:02:4:30 Planetary Facilities Description Built Running Planet Management Module 1 1 Currently Building : Steel Extractor Calculated Freespace : 1762 Calculated Powerflow : 750 Planetary Defence Facilities : 0 When do we start?? ;D Fleet probe returns zip. Undefended then. It is a bit cheeky mind, coming round here taking our planets... What direction does our moral compass show?

I assume its the Players score thats critical to the planets' 60% ptotection type thing, not the individual planet itself?
edit: No. I guess not. Its protected and his score is better than mine (but within the ratio tolerances)

Its protected and his score is better than mine (but within the ratio tolerances) That must be why the fleet score follows the fleet and isn't "stuck" to the home planet. Otherwise a weak, new colony could be planted in an "enemy" quadrant and be protectd. Meanwhile a load of hardware comes over from the mother planet and uses the untouchable little planet as a launch pad. Greenham Common anybody? ;D So the upshot is that we can't attack him, but he can probe us and send back info, whilst being immune. This raise sime interesting strategical possibilities, altoug Ican't quite work out what they are yet. I'll have a cup of tea and a think.

Isn't he immune because the colony is newly established?

If we want to kick them out of the quadrant, I can muster a few hundred fighters (and some corvettes) for action.
Seems a bit unfriendly though - we've never stated that we'd attack someone who colonized the Midnight quadrant.

I would normally agree, but actually there aren't that many active players and we have a finite time. I think we can do this up front in the spirit of honourable competition without too much fuss. Its not like IK where you do all that work, only for some oink to Stronzo! you on a whim. They won't be wiped out, and lets be honest, we want a bit of a scrap don't we?This is still in the R & D stage, and we can help shape it. Cry Havoc and let slip the dogs of war. When I've got enough ships of course.......

Buy some Vampires, they're modestly cheap.

I do think that we ought to make contact first. Perhaps suggest that he/she pays the "Midnight Toll" of say 10% of all resources to Balthazar, as our nominal quadrant leader. (Balthazar can then distribute this to needy Midnighteers)
However, if public opinion says strike first, talk later, then these babies are itching to be used:
Vega Class Corvette 25 Bullet Class Fighter 290 Shadow Class Fighter 20 Dragon Class Fighter 25
Awaiting instructions...
