Sort of! I was taking one of soirams colonies as agreed, I'd sent a colony ship yesterday which failed and I am sure it took 19 hours. I relaunched again late last night, deliberately waiting til near midnight as the 19 hour trip would then arrive around 7pm, a good time for me to login to soirams account, send away his fleet and recall it so I would get his stuff and not suffer losses. Unfortunately for some reason (brain fade etc) the attack actually hit around 3pm, soiram luckily had logged in and sent the fleet away but forgot to recall it before my attack hit. The attack succeeded so he couldn't recall it and I didn't login until too late. Of course it was targetting Ashimars mighty 6th fleet so when I got the code and logged in I saw that indeed it was mighty! Too much stuff for his fleet to get off the island, no colonies near enough to ship the STs off etc and make it in two trips. So rather than send some of his defences away I left it, so he would incurr little damage. The fleet from soiram (now my isle) was decimated, but the defenders didn't hurt too much. I'll be paying Ashimar reparations! With hindsight I could have transported all the STs to the nearest isle and asked for them back later, in return for some gold or something, but I didn't want to do that with someone elses 14k STs Oh well, I've gained a virtually fully equipped colony, the fleet would have been a nice bonus but not one I was expecting anyway. The alliance can hopefully learn from this, it might be best to send fleets away by targetting a very weak colony a long way away in future and then paying reparations to the innocent bystander.......

What I ussually do in these kind of situations where the fleet has to sidestep an attack for some reason is of course to be online at the right time, and launch the fleet away somtime close to the attack, like around 15 minutes before. Then 10 minutes later, while the fleet still is well withing recall distance, recall it, and it will arrive back to the isle 5 minutes after the attack came and went.
Sending the fleet on a long range raid can of course be done as well, especially for night operations, but there is always a risk in that.

It's history by now ;~)
I screwed up while trying to be of assistence which makes one feel extremely stupid.
I can get Trorn from Marios, hence I got access to his account to take a look. I noticed an incoming attack on Marakith by David, but Marios was not there to send away the fleet+soldiers plus the wall was still in place.
I figured it was David sending an attack to take down that wall and didn't think for a second it could be at the same time a colonyship that could succeed. I managed to check in 44 seconds before that attack to disable boat+soldier production and send all men and ships including merchs away, but as I couldn't think of a better isle as destination (just in case) I used my main isle as destination, thinking I could just recall it after the attack landed. As I watched this mild curiosity turned into sheer horror as he still took losses because of the wall but colonized it all the same with that fleet attacking me on it !
I couldn't find the codes on the forum and he was offline. I wondered wether it would be usefull to send my cats away or not. In the end I just left everything there because once more I couldn't find a safe destination and wasn't home at the exact time of impact. The result I put on the messageboard: the cats+archers lost are painful as some of them are still Igor's, but it's nothing compared to baits colonyfleet gone although even without my "help" that would obviously have been lost as nobody else would have taken them away (I did that some 28 seconds before the colonization)
So, that was it. At the least it shows that my main can take a little bashing and that a suicide fleet like that won't cut it, but it's an expensive lesson.
And unfortunately it didn't occur to me I could also have recalled it seconds before the hit occurred although that would have been a close call indeed.

It wsa mainly my fault for getting the timings wrong, added to that some pure bad luck.
But let's put it behind us now!
