As promised here is my post explaining the reasons for Oliver (Arminius) leaving Morkin as well as my view as to how this ties in with the future of Morkin.
Oliver has given me permission to post this and has seen the draft before posting. I am only posting this so as people can get the facts and do demonstrate that I care about our alliance and more importantly the people I have got to know through IK but more importantly M/MU - IK seems to bring out extremes in behaviour more than M/MU.
There are a number of cumulative smaller issues that have contributed to some extent to Olivers departure but the main reasons are as follows. Natmus actually was pretty much spot on with his enlightened insight which he posted on Arminius’ personal thread in the forums, which he himself of course cannot access anymore.
These are in no particular order:
1. Democracy - I’ve always assumed that Morkin was a democratic alliance and the members would carry out whatever action was agreed by the majority. Recently we had some instances of people making attacks after votes had been cast where the majority wanted peace. There are benefits to be had by being in an alliance as great as Morkin, but this is tempered by the drawbacks too, one of which is that you must abide by the majority consensus.
It would hardly be fair for the whole alliance to be penalised for the action of one loose cannon. However, to be fair the communication of late has been so prolific that it is quite likely the people involved didn’t realise that their actions were not what the alliance wanted, so we need to solve this problem for the future - assuming there is a future for us.
I am not belittling the sterling work of our admins/diplomats/admirals or organisers here at all as they have done a fine job, but I do think we need to sort out a more foolproof way to communicate important decisions, such as poll results about future conflicts.
2. Multis
We’re Multi-Hunters and yet in some ways we are like multis ourselves, a level of hypocrisy is being demonstrated. I cannot claim to be innocent here as I have been looking after Robillards account for some weeks now, but the way that Colmfinitos account was used in the war against PF and DL overstepped the mark somewhat. We need to learn from this and make sure it doesn’t happen again. I am deleting Robillards account probably on Monday if nobody has come forward to claim it by then.
3. Eliteism
I know that Morkin is a great alliance but sometimes we do seem to be a little over the top with our superiority. Not everyone else in IK is a ST!
4. Respect
Kind of ties in with the previous point, is it right that we should be using certain language when dealing with other players, even if they are our enemies.
I’m sure that Oliver isn’t the only one who has concerns with these aspects and others of Morkin and I believe we must discuss these issues openly if we want to continue.
Also, there should be respect amongst members of Morkin. Even if you disagree with someone's actions, that is not a reason to insult them.
Problems:
We have some very strong willed people and personality clashes, difficult to resolve this but perhaps there is a way as I don’t think anyone on here outright dislikes anyone else.
Lack of communication, or rather too much information. It’s tough to keep up unless you visit the forum every day, several times a day to be precise.
Solutions:
Fracture Morkin into two alliances, one for the Hawks and one for the Doves, I was considering this when I posted the poll on the IK in-game forum.
Clean the slate and start again, trying to abide by some new rules which we can all agree upon.
Better communication, make use of the in-game PM system for very important issues.
Finally I want to say that it has been great "working" with everyone in this alliance, I want us to go from strength to strength with Oliver (Arminius), I hope my post doesn't cause too much upset as it is not intended to, but I do believe that we should get things in the open where possible.
