The latest version is v0.5.1. This version is the (semi)-complete single-player version. However, the save feature is currently disabled while we have the back off the thing to tinker with it. The next minor version should have a restored save function and revised AI scripting. The next major version should have multi-player capability. Once ML goes multi-player, this forum will be a good place to organise games. The URL, as ever, is chthonic.150m.com/marshall

Hi,
Will the multi-player element be over http or will you send save-game files to one another via email?
Am *really* looking forward to this one. I've played ML a couple of times and had by bottom well and truly kicked into the icy wastes ;D Great fun, and the multi-player version shold be even more fun.
How many players will you be able to have at any one time? Will you play new characters or existing ones?
In anticipation, JY

For simplicity play will probably be via save game- so hotseat play is possible. Although it would be nice to automate sending it. I'm not sure I'm up to establishing a server to handle multiplay.
The number of players will depend on the scenario. Each scenario will have a number of sides that may or may not be human controlled. Other than that, the game will be identical.
The Midmark scenario will only be for single player, but I'll make sure there is at least one multiplayer scenario.
In theory, the number of players is limited by the maximum int value Java can support- something like 32000. But then that would also be the limit on the number of lords...

How about an update over at the Yahoo group? See if you can beat my MU update post's rather wonderful tally of zero comments/replies

Any news on next version? (0.5.2? 6.0.0?)
How's the multi-player angle coming along?

Progress is slow at the moment. Hopefully I should get some of the more annoying bugs eliminated once I can test it under Linux.
As far as multiplayer goes, there are one or two changes I need to make to recruitment rules and I need to write the GUI for the multiplayer aspect but apart from that the existing engine is quite capable of handling it.
Given how little time I've been able to spend on it recently, I've been considering going open source- but I doubt there'd be enough interested developers to make it effective.

How about an update over at the Yahoo group? See if you can beat my MU update post's rather wonderful tally of zero comments/replies You've got to remember that often the yahoo group is a very focused group. It rarely goes off topic and as such can be quiet for large spans of time. This has been the case for 7 years. If you look at the posting frequency; there have never been more than 400 posts in any one month. Could you imagine ringy not making that many posts here! In fact in 2001, there were less than 400 posts - all year! This group has a lot to talk about, but the magority is about playing Midnight/MU. The Yahoo group is highly read, lowly contributed to. I doubt it... most probably don't know you exist! They know there is a game Midnight/MU but I don't know how much real awareness there is for this group etc... The fact you are "in beta" will put a lot of people off... threfore they may no read the Midnight/MU posts fully if at all. When you post "Midnight/MU goes live" I think there may be a difference. I think when the game goes live and you can start singing about it more and inviting more people to come and play, a larger proportion of people will come across. Look at how often one of the remakers post about the latest version and appear to get no or little feedback at all!

Don't worry, I wasn't offended by the silence! Wasn't really expecting that many replies, since as you say the focus of the yahoo group is very different.
I do feel that a new wave of fish mining discussion is called for though ;D.

I might put something on the main page of the web-site around about when the second part of the retro-gamer article gets published- that would seem opportune.
I'm writing my thesis at the moment- so just about everything else is falling by the wayside.
