If you take a look at Chris Wild's map at www.icemark.com/tower/maps/htmlmap2/map.htmyou'll see that the downs south and south-east of Vorgath have the textual error. So either the original LoM has this problem, or the export routine used to generate the HTML was erroneous.

It's rather infrequent for players to frolic around Doom Square in the original LoM, hence it might have gone unnoticed ;D You never miss one, do you?

Well, my professional pride was piqued! ;D
I had to prove that it wasn't my fault. Mind you, I have just accused the great MS of a bug in his perfect game. Uh, oh!

Speaking of which, have you ever peeked into the Ice Fear calculations?

I've never even seen the original LoM code! All of the MU stuff is new, except for the graphic sizes and offsets used in the billboarding, which Peter Armstrong sent me at the start of my project.

All the way, man! Had no idea What do you think of an area of effect thing for dragons?

Do you mean like the elephants in Age of Empires (I think that it's called Trample bonus, or some such)? I'm not a big fan of areas of effect in LoM, as it moves away from the orginal feel of the Speccy game. Much the same way as I like the idea of keeping "blockers". But I'm willing to listen to a well constructed argument in favour

Okay, forget dragons: new xenos, for example the roving icetroll warband (;D) might have the ability to cause a -1 decrease in courage to a 1sq area. Seriously, dragons, wolves and wise could have it.

I see what you mean. The problem with all of these area-based influences/effects that have been mentioned is that they require an additional SQL call. Not a lot in its right, but multiply that for every move made across every game...

I see. Is it possible to know when a lord *sees* a dragon?

Doh! Of course you are right. I am already doing an area of effect when "scouting" and reporting nearby xenos and lords. OK, could you move this conversation into a new Suggestions thread, now that it would have minimal impact on performance? Thanks BTW, this area of effect does not currently exist in battles, so I can't easily implement a keep/citadel damage effect (archers) without a major number of database hits.

Not move it, since this thread started about place names and so should remain here. Simply create a new entry for discussion.

"Downs in the Domain of Despair" "Farflame stands on Downs in the Domain of Despair"
